Who would you like to see cast as 'Number One' in Discovery?

All excellent picks. At this rate we could have a whole fleet of Number One's. Personally I think some maturity is needed to portray the gravitas needed. As to whom could play the part I have absolutely no idea.

Both Picard and Kirk were captains in their early-30's, so I'm not sure a first officer in their late-20's is out of line.
Harry Kim said in Nightingale that ifVoyager hadn't been stranded in the Delta Quadrant, he would have been a Lieutenant by Season 7, and maybe even a Lieutenant Commander. He would have been around 28 or 29 at that point in his career, so having a first officer in their late 20s, especially one that doesn't hold full Commander rank isn't outwith the bounds of possibility.
I still think it's a little too young, regardless of Trek's past.

I wonder if Fuller is thinking about banking Gillian Anderson as his series lead.
He's already got her for American Gods, and given he's said his series lead is a first officer and not a captain (and possibly a woman of colour), Anderson seems unlikely.

To have a guest spot, though, who knows.

I don't have anyone in mind per se, but I would like someone more with the stage presence of Amanda Tapping or Gillian Anderson, but in her early 30s. Maybe a Latina actress would be my choice: someone Jessica Alba-ish? And by stage presence, I mean an actress who comes off as a strong female lead who knows what her job is and what she is doing and is a capable leader, but doesn't confuse command presence with being bitchy or confrontational with everyone. That is such a tired trope where in order to make a female character appear strong and capable, said female actress has to be seen as some ultra feminist that has a chip on her shoulder with every male character. It's that type of portrayal that turned me off to Ensign Ro, Commander Shelby, and at first, Kira.

Given the current political climate, an actress with a Middle Eastern background would probably be best. That would provide a good role model, while freaking out conservatives just like Chekov and Uhura did back in the 60s. Pure Star Trek.

Hettienne Park was one of the best parts of Hannibal for those first two seasons, IMO. Quite an underrated actress (especially good at playing an ass-kicker).

First Officer on Discovery...
Gina Torres. I don't think the XO NEEDS to be a woman, but I think it should be someone with a strong screen presence, and someone who can portray an authority figure without having "the chip" or being a "b---h".

In Firefly, Ms. Torres did an excellent job of being tough, intelligent, cunning, and scary. She was never "b---hy" but was always strong (until Wash died). She also managed to pull off quite an air of dignity in a show that was not always dignified.

I totally forgot about Cleopatra 2525.
Hmmm... I might have to (grudgingly) agree on her as captain material as opposed to 1st Mate.

Maybe Steven Yeun? (I love him as Keith in the new Voltron). He looks about right for an up-and-coming officer.
