Who would you like to have seen as a companion?

Danny Pink. I was really hoping they were going to kill off Clara instead of him, and they already had this nice set-up to play off of with Pink having been a soldier and The Doctor's attitude toward him. Seemed like they both had things they needed to learn from each other - and mostly it was The Doctor who needed to learn, which was refreshing.

Amy and Rory. Because, you know... The Doctor *totally* DUG THEM UP and proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that they died in the past, so there's just *absolutely NO WAY* that he could go back and get them and just pay to have some headstones put there. It isn't violating a fixed point or causing a paradox if there was never a conflict between events in the first place.

A celebrity. Not someone playing them. Not them playing a character. Actually them. Maybe someone for whom it would just be a lot of fun, like Eric McCormack or Florence Welch or even George Lucas, who are all big fans. Or maybe someone who could potentially actually outweird The Doctor, like Prince. Or Lady Gaga. Or Eddie Izzard. :D

Which classic series villains would you like to have seen in the TARDIS? How about Prof. Whitaker and Sir Charles from IOTD?

Tobias Vaughn and Sharez Jek: both villains, but with understandable motives that would have let them be uneasy friends elsewhere.

Actually I love this.

Imagine the fun of someone like that on the TARDIS playing themselves in a show about time travel. It'd be funny for a little while then the joke might go stale. But I'd love it for one or two stories.

RTD wanted JK Rowling on the show playing herself, but the idea was abandoned at Tennant's request as he felt it was too gimmicky.

I've long championed for Eddie Izzard as The Doctor, but I would love to have him as a companion...as himself.

I love Tobias Vaughn. He's one of my favorite characters from the entire series. Also from that story, Isobel Watkins would have been a fun companion. At the very least, I kept hoping that they would bring her back for a cameo on The Sarah Jane Adventures as Sarah Jane's editor or something.

Lady Christina. I really think she needed to be in "The Waters of Mars."

Agreed. If she'd become a companion in "Planet of the Dead" and then they killed her off in "Waters of Mars," the Doctor going apeshit at the end would have felt much more justified.

Right after they escape from the house and she grabs the ladder, smiles, and says to the Ice Nanny Monster "I regret to inform you the position has been taken," or whatever, I was smitten. Head over heels from that moment. :adore: It only deepened when she excitedly looked around the TARDIS, ebullient at the prospect at traveling in space in this big ship.

Then when she fell and died, I literally said "No. They didn't. No..."

She would've been such an awesome, spunky companion. It's a shame they changed their minds about her.

Yeah. I really loved Victorian Clara and Oswin, whereas it took me a long time to warm up to present day Clara. (I don't think I really warmed up to her until her meet cute with Danny in "Into the Dalek.")

Rita from "The God Complex" is the one that really breaks my heart though.

I would like Big Finish to show us when the Doctor first met Strax & Madam Vastra. I keep thinking Strax would be hilarious with the 4th Doctor & K-9!

I've got some ideas for how to bring back Rory for an episode. (Basically, it takes place during Rory & Amy's travels with the 11th Doctor. Amy has come down with some kind of alien disease and the Doctor is with her back on the TARDIS. Rory has been sent to the Great Pharmacy of Alpha Centauri to pick up Amy's prescription. While there, he runs into the 12th Doctor & Clara and gets involved in whatever their adventure is. At the end, he goes back to meet with the 11th Doctor & Amy. The 12th Doctor tells Rory that he can't tell anyone else that he's seen them. Rory agrees not to tell the 11th Doctor but can't promise that he won't tell Amy.
Rory: "It's Amy. She knows when I'm lying and she will hurt me."
12th Doctor: "Fair enough.")

The Rani (at least before they made her potential appearance redundant by copping out with a female Master). She could have brought her Tyrannosaurus embryos. Wacky fun!
Since Moffat is obsessed with Daleks, they could've pulled a Scorpius and had a renegade Dalek join him as a companion, maybe one of the Cult of Skaro. How awkward would that be? The Moffat would be happy, because every episode would be a Dalek episode!
Lady Christina de Souza from Planet of the Dead was a missed opportunity, a cat burglar would have been very cool.

I'm not sure Moffat is obsessed with Daleks, at times it seems like he's eager to get the (obligatory?) Dalek episodes out of the way early and in series 6 the only sight of a Dalek we got was Eleven nabbing the eyestalk of a downed one.

Yeah I would love to have had Lady Christina onboard but Michelle Ryan would have been costly to hire I'd imagine.

I like the idea of Clara still infected with Dalek nanites and she might pop an eyestalk one day :D

I think she would would have been affordable then, and would probably be affordable now. I recall an interview in 2009 where she said she was interested in being a companion, but she knew that she probably wouldn't be.

Shoot, now I wonder how she would work opposite Capaldi. She could be the action lead, and it would be awesome. :)

It definitely would have been good to see her in more than one episode, but I do think that ship has now sailed really. I'm surprised her career hasn't taken off more than it has. I know the Bionic Woman was a flop but she was decent in it.

I did an article for a review website c. the 50th Anniversary Special about ten 'could have been' companions - at that point, I tried to select one character from each year of the show. I've added my additional selections on -

1 - Lynda Moss ("Bad Wolf"/"The Parting of the Ways" 2005)
2 - Ida Scott ("Impossible Planet"/"The Satan Pit" 2006)
3 - Sally Sparrow ("Blink" 2007)
4 - Ross Jenkins ("Sontaran Strategem"/"Poison Sky" 2008)
5 - Adelaide Brook ("Waters of Mars" 2009)
6 - Craig Owens ("The Lodger" 2010, "Closing Time" 2011)
7 - Rita Afzal ("The God Complex" 2011)
8 - Nefertiti ("Dinosaurs on a Spaceship" 2012)
9 - Emma Grayling ("Hide" 2013)
10 - Cass ("Night of the Doctor" 2013)
11 - Journey Blue ("Into the Dalek" 2014)
12 - Shona McCullogh ("Last Christmas" 2014)
