I'm fine if Kirk is namedropped at some point, but, it wouldn't be in the context of him being a famous officer (How well known is Kirk at this point in time?). It could be something as simple as Stamets or another officer recalling a previous posting and saying something like, "Our landing party leader, Jim Kirk," or something to suggest that Kirk is being referred to. To them, he's "unremarkable," but to us, the audience, we know who he goes on to become.
In the same vein as when TNG, DS9, or VOY referenced another as contemporaries.
Example:
"Anyway, I got as far as Deep Space 9, where I got into a bar fight with a Ferengi and I was thrown into the brig by a very unpleasant shapeshifter."

Elevate yourself above stupidity. Somebody in Starfleet 6 months after the Battle at the Binary Stars not knowing Michael Burnham would be the same as somebody in the current US army not knowing who Bowe Bergdahl is. The majority do, for obvious reasons.

I've got zero problem with Spock having a sister (famous or otherwise), but squishing it into the TOS backstory rather than their own version of Trek is silly. Rumour has it the newest version of the Joker might be related to Bruce Wayne. That might suck, but as an idea it's just fine - as long as they don't insist it's the same world as Batman(1989), The Dark Knight or Gotham.

He's probably known as the guy who got away with cheating on the Kobayashi Maru, and for being notoriously strict as an instructor at the Academy ("Watch out for Lt. Kirk -- in his class, you either think or sink!"). Beyond that, probably not much. As of the start of DSC season 2, we're probably only a few months past the loss of the Farragut; but despite Kirk blaming himself for that, the rest of Starfleet probably just sees him as one of the many survivors and he shouldn't particularly stand out.
It seems clear that the Klingons were gunning for a war anyway, and would have got one regardless of Burnham's involvement. She did NOT start the war. The Klingons did - because that's just what they do.
Everything that happened up to and including the war was the result of manipulation by the Klingons. (Why else leave that damn beacon right out in the open where anyone could find it? The Klingons were waiting for somebody to fire on...)As for Kirk: Jimmy Bennett looks like a good choice. Not sure how good of an actor he is but he definitely looks like a Kirk.
Where else would a story about a relative of Spock be placed? When we discovered he had a fiancee, it was in the TOS time frame. When we found out who his parent are it was in the TOS time frame. When we found out he had a brother it was in the TOS time frame. Why would a sister require a new version of Trek?
