Who Will Direct Star Trek XII?

I'm surprised that there hasn't already been a thread on this. We know that JJ has stepped away from the helm in order to produce the movie. I'm really curious to whom will succeed him as director. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Actually, he hasn't decided one way or the other yet.

Yeah, I wondered when that happened; I hadn't seen any threads on it, and I'm pretty sure the moment he said that, five or six would pop up.

Mr. Abrams is in the captain's chair. He gets to decide whether he wants to direct or not. So far, he has not made that decision. (It is good to be the king.)

I'm in the camp of people who's really hoping JJ will direct the next one. While there are many competent directors out there who I'm sure will do a good job, but since Trek XI hit it outta the park, I want the next one to keep its heavy hitters.

I also hope JJ will direct the next movie too. If not him, my long time dream is that someday Steven Spielberg would direct a Star trek movie.

Omg, hopefully JJ, but if not, i wonder how Frakes would do with NuTrek? Or David Carsons? What about Ridley Scott?
I'm afraid i'm not up on who is young and out there directing these days....

I'd really prefer JJ....

I wouldn't mind seeing Peter Jackson or Nicholas Meyer do so. I also enjoy the idea of Nimoy himself helming yet another TREK movie if he's in the right health and mindframe to do so one more time.

Brett Ratner. Since he has no style of his own, he'll just copy the style of any previous Trek director you want... only without any life or passion.

I don't want to see any director who's done Trek before Abrams touch this.

Frankly, if Meyer was the talent that a lot of Trek fans think he'd have a much longer list of directing credits than he does. Doing a good job of directing a low-budget Trek movie does not make him brilliant, and he's not.

Well I do remember a thread where we were discussing who we would like to see direct the next movie, would JJ decide not too. I then stated Ridley Scott as my first choice.

I'd like to see Abrams do it again, just for the reassurance of quality. But I get a (possibly baseless) vibe from JJ that he has a lot he wants to do and that sequels would get in his way.

Why? Cause they think it takes more to make a good Star Trek story than plot convenient red matter and characters who are complete a-holes?

That's my fear exactly, I like Brett Ratner, but I don't want it to be Trek XII: The Last Stand, if you know what I mean
