I was reading another post yesterday, scullery maid, supporting him in the 60s, and walking the cursed earth for a year is a pretty shitty series of consequences for being ignored by a bloke you fancy... But then... Guarding your fiancées coffin for 2000 years thinking that she may come back to life at some point.

Does Rory remember any of that?

It's pretty obvious he remembers. Otherwise, why would he still have - and use - the roman costume in the Christmas special? He also asks during their wedding reception how he could have forgotten the Doctor? All the memories are restored, with some new ones (such as, her parents).

Rory was harder done by, I think. Death, deletion, 2,000-year vigil (the last of which I like to think has faded like a dream)...

Martha wasn't too badly served if you gloss over the apparent fact that if Ten knows where to arrive in order to save her from the Sontaran in The End Of Time, she was probably "supposed" to die.

Well the Roman costume by itself doesn't indicate he remembers anything. He had already worn it, or something similar, before. A photo of WPC Amy and Roman Rory was present in Amy's room. River saw it in The Pandorica Opens, it was one of the clues that the whole situation was a set up. Amy, after all, had a thing for Romans.

However his comment at the wedding, "I was plastic", shows that he has recovered at least some of his memories.

And he was certainly hard done by. Not only was he killed, twice, but his fiancée almost abandoned him to run off with her imaginary friend.

BTW, am I the only one who looks at OmahaStar's avatar, and hears the Cyberleader saying "Bitch, please."?

A centurion and a copper? How exactly does that sex game play out?

It doesn't exactly... but it's obviously not the fist time they've played that situation.

I'll go with Rory for the sheer magnitude and length of it (not to mention dying and coming back only to shoot his fiance). But that's not to take away from Martha, who went through some horrific events - and unlike 99% of the world remembers that year.

The Boy Who Waited trumps The Girl Who Walked the Earth in the sense that a bout of pneumonia trumps a case of food poisoning.

Well let's look at this another way.

Rory had a choice, Martha didn't. It was Rory who decided to guard the Pandorica, the Doctor didn't make him do it.

Meanwhile Martha just did as she was told, she was a little pawn in the game between the Doctor and the Master, with no control over her own destiny.

My vote was Martha, hands down. First, you have the whole unrequited love aspect, and the fact she was always following in Rose's shadow. Although she had the greater good in mind, you know she roamed the earth in order to try and score points with the Doctor, to no avail - is it any wonder she said "no more" afterward? And during that year she had incredible pressure because she was the only one who could save the earth and everyone she loved (including the Doctor).

Rory, on the other hand, had an opportunity to prove his love, he knew Amy was coming back because he trusted the Doctor, and if there was any real competition between the two for Amy's affections, volunteering for 2000 years is one way to one-up the Doctor, big time. And, ultimately, Rory gets the girl - and regains his humanity later. A win for Rory on every level I can think of.

So Martha was the harder done by, by far.

Not really sure, but to each his own. Maybe they got the idea watching Torchwood. Some one probably should ask Moffet.

:)

If Rory remembers 2,000 years of lived history, who knows what kind of knowledge he could have amassed in that time. The Languages he had the time to learn and speak.

He didn't just sit in front of that box for 2000 years, he guarded it from a place of concealment and by learning to blend in with the changing times.

(Never did understand why someone said they saw a Roman pulling the box out of the fire during the London Blitz, he'd of changed clothes once or twice in 2000 years you'd think.)

I doubt Rory remembers it now that he is human again, could a human even have that amount of knowledge?..... though now I'm remembering what an insufferable cunt Amy was again when she still tried to hit on The Doctor when he came back.

badger already cited the dialogue fromt he wedding reception that suggests Rory remembers his life as an Auton.

"I was plastic!"

Rory is more than twice as old as the Doctor.

I can't wait for Rory to play that card next time the Doctor tries to act big and scary by saying that he is 907 or 908 years old... ;)

Rpry also mentions at the end of The Big Bang that the Doctor has just saved all of time and space, so clearly he is aware of recent events in some way.

Funniest Freudian typo of the week! :guffaw: :)

Me, it's a difficult choice as both went through the wringer in different ways, but ultimately I'd give it to Martha.

Definitely Martha, she never punched out the Doctor on one of his rants.

The Doctor: Your girlfriend isn't more important than the whole universe.

Rory: She is to me!
