Who Wants Matt Smith Back?

Matt Smith is my favourite doctor (Though it may have a lot to do with the interplay with Darvil and Gillan), but I don't really want to see him be back for more than possibly a multiple doctors-thing. His story is more or less done, and it makes no sense for the doctor to take the same face again,

Ive always thought that the only possible reason they'd bring back a previous actor to play a new incarnation was if the show was struggling in the ratings and needed a boost. Like how they considered bringing Troughton back as the Seventh Doctor. But it would be just as easy to instead cast a big name to pull in ratings. Though I wouldn't rule out the possibility of them doing it some day.

Maybe Matt plays the role like William Hartnell, serious without all the "hands flapping about".

That would be fun even if it was for an episode or two. One previous incarnation reappears and acts like a whole other previous incarnation.

Imagine John "not William" Hurt having to play Tom Baker's version.

If they ever do bring Matt Smith back (though I would prefer Tennant), I would want him not to be The Doctor but instead The Valeyard.

Then it would be a literal case of having their cake and eating it too. In fact I think the casting would genuinely sublime. And if they write it right, it could be set up as a recurring nemesis/antagonist for a season.

Honestly, as a villain the Valeyard is somewhat disappointing. He's not really menacing at all, he's just a dick.

Yeah, but the Valeyard was around for a whole season, and doesn't really live up to the hype generated afterwards by those who describe him as an "evil Doctor."

Agreed. A lot of wasted potential. Back when that season aired, I was also hoping for some interesting interplay between the Master and the Valeyard, but that didn't happen either. Would the evil Doctor and the Master be on the same side, or more likely, rivals of a different type?

I think Steven Moffat had it planned to bring Matt Smith back after the next guy (Peter Capaldi) all the way back at the beginning of season 5. Why do I think this? Because of a line in the episode The Eleventh Hour. In that gray haired lady's house that lady says to the Doctor: I know you, don't I? I've seen you somewhere before.
The Doctor's reply contains the foreshadowing line. Doctor: Not me. Brand new face. First time on.
I wouldn't be surprised to find out I'm right. And I also wouldn't be surprised to find out Moffat had a backup plan, if he couldn't get Matt back then he'd try to get either David Tennant or Chris E. back as the Doctor.

The next doctor wont be up to Moffat though. Besides, keep in mind that 11 is the longest of all doctors living about 1100 years, that's plenty of time revisiting familiar places.

It wasn't foreshadowing. She saw the pictures Amy drew growing up of the Raggedy Man.

Besides, Moffat frequently changes his plans over the course of a season, there's no way he would stayed on course with this idea for 6+ years.
