Who should voice the Enterprise computer?

Mirror Sulu

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
Majel Barrett-Roddenberry last appeared as the iconic voice of the Enterprise in Star Trek XI.

Going forward, what would you like to see happen regarding the role? Do you think they should use a Barret-Roddenberry sound alike, perhaps a rotating list of voices, or a new permanent voice actor? If so, who?

I would choose George Takei, owing to both his great vocals and articulate delivery, and his connection to Trek (TOS specifically). Avery Brooks would also be a contender.

I think like with DS9 and the Cardassian computer, they should have a female voice, make it uniform, and obscure.

Rooooooxxxxxxanne! (Dawson) ... ?

'Course, she already did a computer voice in "Dead Stop".

So, I guess we all know the actual correct answer:

Carrie Fisher.

Whoever did the other computer voice in the last film (in Kirk's pod on Delta Vega and elsewhere) was fine. I imagine in Trek's time, they can change computer voices as easily as we change ringtones today.

An existing connection to Trek means jack with it comes to VO and really would be cheesy as hell. We had our valentine with Enterprise's finale. It sucked.

Expand your horizons for people who have good voices. Probably feminine as that's what we've had for almost 50 years. A booming baratone coming from the speakers would be ridiculous.

"T-Minus 45 seconds until self-destruct. Ohhh myyy..."

It's absurd.

I've often tried to think of actresses who had similar voices to Majel Barrett's, but her tones were pretty distinctive. I think Stockard Channing has a fairly similar voice -- maybe Susan Sullivan, a bit less so. Wendie Malick? Katey Sagal?

Speaking of...we have gotten to a point where a computer generated voice could work. Look at Siri.

Benadict Cumberbatch.

"Holy crap Jim, you had the computer programmed to talk like that terrorist psycho?"

"He has a nice voice!"

Kirk: Computer, from now on I want you to call me Captain Badass.
Computer: OK, Jim. From now on I will call you, Captain Badass.
