Who should play Lois Lane in the new Superman movie?

Teri Hatcher. I don't care that's she's like 45 she's still hot as all hell. That'd get me to see the movie.

Me to. As much as I like everybody who has played Lois (with the exception of the godawful Kate Bostwick), Teri Hatcher will always be the best.

How about actors at an age where they look like seasoned, credible, grown-up but still-in-their-prime journalists (as opposed to Smallville casting where Hilary Duff could play President of the United States)?

It would never happen, but what about Mia Kirshner?

This is a great suggestion. I think it's the best one I've seen so far. :techman: James Caviezel expressed interest in playing Superman when "Superman Returns" was in production and the lead had not been cast yet. Bryan Singer said he was too recognizable from playing Jesus and wanted to cast an unknown. At the time, I thought he would be great for the part, and even though he's probably too old now, I still think he'd make an excellent Superman.

I cast this vote. Gabrielle Union.

And points for thinking out of the box with Gabrielle Union. (That would almost be worth it just to watch the purists' heads explode.)

I've always wanted to see a black Lois Lane ever since I read "I am Curious (Black)" ish of Superman's Girlfriend Lois Lane.

However, there's already been a black Lois Lane in the Dallas Theater revival of the It's Superman musical — Zakiya Young. And she'd be my choice in the new movie.

I am a big proponent of out-of-the-box casting for the new movie. An Asian-American actor as Jimmy Olsen; keep the name change the ethnicity. Hell, if fanbois bitch, he can have dyed red hair.

Or how 'bout a Latino Jimmy? Or Latina Lois? Or a black Perry? Or a multi-ethnic Steve Lombard?

If Superman is to be a Caucasian, blue-eyed, black-haired Kryptonian, then his supporting cast should have a little bit more color. Hell, let's cast another multi-ethinc actor like Dean Cain... remember all the huff about that bit of casting because his eyes weren't blue.

If that's the case, we might as well go all the way: Donald Glover 4 Superman!!

Do we need another Superman movie already? I think we can go a decade or two before we need another one.

Yes we need a "Superman" movie this soon after the last. I'm one of a few who wanted a sequel to "Returns".

Me too. I am one of those rare individuals that really liked Superman Returns and was very disappointed they did not give us a sequel to that movie.

Monica Raymund seems a likely contestant for the role if they're opening it up to the 'ethnic' and 'exotic' folk, and i wouldn't mind at all.

Rachel McAams is a good idea, but I often think she looks too much like Kate Bosworth.

She'd be good. Maybe Anne Hathaway?

Anne Hathaway is amazing. So is Natalie Portman and Rebecca Hall. They need to find a beautiful, intelligent young actress who is believable as an investigative journalist "full of moxie and grit!" or else she'll turn into some useless damsel with no spine. I mean, what the hell did Kate Bosworth do in Superman Returns --other than get her and her son captured by Lex Luthor in the most inept way possible?

Here are my choices for the role:

Jewel Staite

Summer Glau

Sarah Michelle Gellar

Eliza Dushku

Juliet Landau

Anne Hathaway

Mary Louise Parker

Amy Acker

Eva Green

Mary Elizabeth Winstead

Meghan Fox

Kate Beckinsale

Scarlett Johansson

Amy Acker

Carla Gugino

Malin Akerman

Bryce Dallas Howard

Leelee Sobieski

Sara Paxton

Reece Witherspoon

With regards tothe idea of Afro-American actresses playing Lois Lane; as an Afro-Canadian male fan of SF&F media, my answer's a flat out NO!

There's enough contraversy in the world at large about multiracial casting of certain characters (the Last Airbender debacle comes to mind) without adding more fuel to the fire on this topic. Just as most of the Asian-American community had fits of anger over the Last Airbender casting, what do you all will think happen with the news that the producers cast a Afro-American woman in the role of one of America's most beloved ficticious character? The outcry and bitching will be mega, with most of this coming from the Tea Bagger nation and most of the neocon media pundits angry at how politically correct, 'liburl' Hollywood has defiled an American icon by pandering to blacks and playing the race card for them. There are times and roles that we push for in regards to multiracial casting-trust me, this hornet's nest that would be stirred up isn't one of them. Best simply to just cast the movie, let it be seen, and that's it.

I mean, what the hell did Kate Bosworth do in Superman Returns --other than get her and her son captured by Lex Luthor in the most inept way possible?

She didn't scream or shout, or feel any fear when confronting Lex Luthor, and even returned the favor by saving Superman after he saved her, her son, and her husband; just like the current comic book version of Lois that I love so much. That's showing true moxie and grit without having to resort to fisticuffs or guns.
