I was 18 and was really looking forward to it because I loved TSFS. I felt the films just kept getting better and better. Then I saw a blurb in my local newspaper:
"Star Trek 4 has begun filming. It's being billed as a 'sci-fi comedy." My heart sank....
Fast forward, Opening credits. My heart sank further. No James Horner.
And off we go. I "liked" it and laughed a lot (the "I love Italian" bit is the hands down most hysterical exchange in Star Trek), but it was not and will never be a favorite. It is, actually, my least favorite of the classic film series. It's fine, but it also sounded the death knell for serious Star Trek films with this cast. Every movie afterward was polluted with ridiculous gags. Afteer the greatness I felt with the first 3, this was a huge letdown. So, there ya go.
