Seriously?

Get out the heart paddles: Warner Brothers is once again trying to resuscitate J. R. Ewing and his bourbon-loving “Dallas” clan.

Twentieth Century Fox says its New Regency production unit is still working (slowly) on a big-screen adaptation of “Dallas,” the big-drama, bigger-hair series that helped define the 1980s. But when it comes to breathing new life into the old soap, Warner’s television studio might beat them to it.

On the front burner at Warner is a “Dallas” remake for its sister cable network TNT, according to a producer and an agent with knowledge of the project. The show would focus on the next generation of Ewings, namely John Ross (the offspring of J. R. and Sue Ellen for those of you who are “Dallas” neophytes) and Christopher (the adopted son of Bobby and Pam who, devotees will remember, is the progeny of Sue Ellen’s sister, Kristin, the famed shooter of J. R.).

As always with gestating creative projects, it’s no guarantee that TNT will pull the trigger on a full-blown series once the pilot is made. But members of the original cast — including Larry Hagman, Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy — have been contacted for their participation. Some, if not all, are on board — at least with their blessing. (The last thing Warner wants is an original cast member bad-mouthing the idea of a remake.) Warner and TNT spokeswomen declined to comment.

Like their counterparts in movies, television executives are struggling more than ever to break through the entertainment clutter, and remaking old shows gives them a marketing head start. The recent track record has been mixed, however. A revived version of “90210″ is chugging along in its second season on CW, but the network’s reboot of “Melrose Place” has struggled in its first few episodes.

Wow....I thought Larry Hagman was dead.

Glad he's not...but I really did think he'd passed on.

Anyway, not sure how I feel about a remake....but I suppose if a stupid-ass show like 90210 can be remade successfully, ANYTHING can be.

And I'll say this for Dallas, it was a hugely popular show. I remember the summer after J.R. was shot. That was all anyone talked about: who did it?

The first thoughts that entered my mind were the dreadful, mindless re-makes of 90210 and Melrose Place. In fact, I'm surprised that the talentless morons at the CW haven't already tried to pick this up themselves. Considering that this is targeted at TNT, there's a tiny chance that it could be decent. Nevertheless, a revisit of Dallas is entirely unnecessary.

^

Also, was anyone out there really begging for a Dallas Remake?
Besides this guy?

One year after this Dallas revisit has premiered, we'll then get Return to Knots Landing ! Mark my words, gang!

^ I'd rather have a return to Falcon Crest. David Selby is still working, after all, as is Robert Foxworthy. Haven't seen Lorenzo Lamas around lately, but he's from a showbiz family, so I'm sure he would do it.

Of course, pulling Susan Sullivan off of Castle would be a tragedy....but then, I believe she died in one of the last seasons of Falcon Crest's 9 year run anyway.....

Humm......

Lorenzo Lamas' last movie Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus is the talk of the internet!!!

Plus apparently he has his own real-life soap opera going on (like his son sleeping with stepmother).

Connor Trinneer would make a great J.R., I think. :techman:

Better than the big screen version would have gotten - I mean, come on, John freaking Travolta? :guffaw:

Oh my GAWD!!!!! And here I missed the whole thing. Such a tragedy. :p

Yucky.

You can tell I don't keep up with stars very much - especially stars from soaps.

Although I do keep up with David Selby. I fell in love with him when I was about 7 years old, rushing home from 2nd grade to watch Dark Shadows. In fact, he was the reason I watched Falcon Crest to begin with! ;)

It's really sad when one of your childhood crushes is now playing grandfather-like roles. :( But still, I have always liked him.

I wouldn't really call Lamas a star these days (and outside of soaps, were there any fans of his straight-to-DVD action flicks?). And I only know of his son sleeping with his wife No. 3 (or 4?) because he has a new reality series coming out and apparently that sort of news is worthy of news crawls on TV (I didn't know who Jon and Kate were until I saw it on CNN!!!!!).

Anyway, here's Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus:

^ Was that supposed to be hilariously funny? Because it was. :guffaw:

Plus, it looks like most of the movie is made up of cut-rate CGI. Like the modern day equivalent of strings holding up godzilla.

Although maybe we should go show that in the LOST forum. Might be the answer to what REALLY brought down flight 815.

No no no! Connor is Bobby Ewing! My casting list:

JR - Joel Gretsch

Sue Ellen - Felicity Huffman

Pamela - Sprague Grayden

Cliff Barnes - Dean Winters

Kristen - Kristen Bell as a brunette

The likes of Xander Berkeley, Gregory Itzin and Powers Boothe would be terrific as various shady oil industry honchos.

Please don't remake Dallas! Leave one show alone!

One, I don't think a lot of folks watching these 90210 stylings even remember Dallas, and if they do, it's probably the bad end years or the hokey reunion shows.

Two, this nighttime soap opera serial doesn't seem to be popular right now, and Dallas invented all the stops that would be needed to pull such a successful show.

Three, there's enough of original Dallas material for fans, and the show itself jumped the shark with the aforementioned Bobby in the shower. Instead of remaking all this crap, can we please have a truly proper retro television network? TV Land grew up, SoapNet shows modern crap. If someone simply showed the first 5 seasons of Dallas each night, they'd probably get a few million viewers. Who can afford all the season sets?

And lastly, I'm named after Who Shot JR. And the best reason why Dallas should NOT be remade. I can't remember the last time I said that to someone, and the KNEW what I was talking about! Actually, yes I can. It was 10 years ago, the mother of a girl I was coaching overheard me.

Let well enough alone, people!

No no no! Connor is Bobby Ewing!

I can't imagine Bobby without that cheesy perm. If this was 1986, I'd be thinking Gary Carter from the NY Mets.

Boothe wouldn't make a half bad J.R. himself, come to think of it... :vulcan:

When I was in high school, the summer between my Sophomore and Junior years, I was stuck at home for a good month because of a knee injury, so I wasn't outside a whole lot. So, I played video games and watched TV. Some channel was showing Dallas, so I started to watch. I have to admit, I really started to get into it. I jumped on when Bobby "died", so I was actually watching the dream season. Luckily, I was recovered enough to walk easier and go with friends just shortly after Pam woke up.

:D
