Who or what, would you philosophically risk your life for ?

Cingular

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
Excluding the boringly predictable (your children, siblings and/or anyone else in your family), who and/or what things would you (humourously or seriously) risk your life for and please say why.

I don't need to philosophize. I've done it for a total stranger, who didn't appreciate the gesture.

Why? Because I just couldn't not do it, and I doubt I could not do it again. I can sleep at night because of it.

The pursuit of science. All I ask in return is an universal constant christened with my name, as well as the first exatra-solar human colony. I don't think it's too much to ask, innit? :D

that said absolutely nothing to me... but gtranslate did a rather fine job on this one.

Ideas claiming the famous sacrifice
The cults of all stripes offer in the aftermath
And the question arises novice victims
Dying for ideas is fine, but why?
And like all of them are Similar
When he sees them coming with their big flag
The wise man, hesitatingly, revolves around the tomb
Die for ideas, okay, but a slow death
Okay, slow death

Probably nothing. I don't know, if a situation arose where I'd have to decide in a split second I'd end up thinking about it. By the time I would decide it'd be too late and they'd be dead anyway.

There's a famous (probably apocryphal) one using internet translators where the expression "out of sight, out of mind" is translated into Russian and then back into English and comes back as "invisible idiot".
