Who needs Google Glass: Augmented reality contacts

Nice. People will stop wanting to cave my head in if they don't know I am wearing it. I always wanted to be a stealth glasshole.

Except you'd have to wear the glasses and the contacts for them to do anything. Not really any better than Glass in that department. The contacts just permit having a full-vision HUD, but they require the glasses (which project images onto the contacts) in order to work. So, they aren't exactly a stealthier solution than Google Glass.

don't show that link to Christian! He'll stack the ads 5 layers deep on the board and spread them out to the very edges of your peripheral vision, once these contacts get popular. :p :D

I could only imagine how somebody could hack into this and make a person see all sorts of things that are not there.

I don't want augmented reality -- I like my reality the way it is.

Augmented reality is just a level up from smartphones, and I quite like my augmented smartphone reality. There are things I can reach down and do with my apps that I couldnt have done without much time and planning before. Much like the Google Glass video that circulated early on, I can literally go from using app to app already and be intrinsically linked with my technology. It expands my knowledge and everyday existence..

Having a downside to anything, much less technology is NOT a good reason to not try it..I guess we may as well not go across the sea because we werent made to swim, or go into space becuase we cant exist in a vacuum.

Those glasses look more like normal sports sunglasses rather than a hardware item like Google Glass, so yes, they will be less obvious, though probably not "stealthy".

You haven't experienced your technology vis-a-vis until you have electrodes implanted in your brain. And skeleton. Personally, my life won't be full until I replace all my limb bones with artificial ones having powerful electrical motors at their joints to lift cars with.

Until they refine the damn interface on these things, I'm not touching it. I've spent enough times arguing with Siri not to rely on any kind of voice interface, and the head/control gestures for Glass are going to drive me completely insane.

Come find me when the glass or the contacts use an interactive HUD. I don't mind looking like a lunatic waving my hands around in the air like a Jedi, scrolling through menus only I can see.

That is complete nonsense...

Having a downside to anything, much less technology is NOT a good reason to not try it..
Depends on the technology...

As for traveling across the ocean and even into orbit requires relatively primitive technology compared to what these devices require...

If, for the sake of discussion, such a system were to be realized someday, the results would be rather interesting. And perhaps a tad scary. :p

Actually it's complettely true and the been much discussed in technological circles . I've posted links before on the subject. If I can't find the links on other threads I could certainly provide them for you if you like. Or look up "transactive memory" or "smartphone augmented reality".

Well you are in luck, multiple companies are making augmented reality possible.

I just see a rise in pick-pocketing and purse snatching. A lot of folks will be staring out into space, as someone wanders up to their table at the cafe' and takes their goodies.

it'll be ten minutes before they notice anything missing.

Or you could have less pickpocketing as your purse, wallet, etc. each have RFID chips in them that your phone/Glass are constantly monitoring, and if one of them starts to move away unexpectedly (e.g. from your back pocket in a direction away from you), it can send up an alarm and tell you someone's running off with your valuables.

Just saying, technology could solve that problem, too. ;)

It already has, sort of. Stick-N-Find. If it could stop with false alarms due to temporarily lost Bluetooth connections, add some directional sensing, and maybe give the stickers a slightly smaller form factor, it could change a lot.

I have one in my wallet and one on my keychain.

Ah, I should have known some enterprising company would have come up with this already, since it's a pretty obvious idea. :)
