Who is watching StarTrek in the Future?

Dr. K.R. Kollman hon.

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
Is Star Trek still a show during Archer's time?
Kirk's?
Or Picard's even?
Would Star Trek be something in the past to them?
Or a current phenomenon?
Maybe one that the even TRY to emulate?

In-universe? It probably doesn't exist. You could go the route of some Star Trek knockoff filling in the gap, like "Space Fleet" or "Star Patrol." You could say without Star Trek other real sci-fi shows like The Twilight Zone filled in the gap in the public consciousness, because according to Trip it still existed. You could have it that with the advent of actual space travel like DY-100's, Ares IV, Charybdis and real world sci-fi concepts existing like Eugenics Wars sci-fi fell by the wayside as a popular genre and maybe stuff like fantasy came into vogue or historical reenactments, explaining why TNG love going back to the public domain.
I think in-universe there could be films made in the future about the adventures of the various captains, but it'd be interesting to weigh their adventures against other ships in Starfleet. Is Kirk saving Earth from V'ger worthy of a biopic if every ship is also having epic adventures? Or on the other hand you have writers wondering if they need to tone down the film, wondering with Kirk having fought Nomad, V'ger and the Whale Probe, is the audience going to buy him having fought three different probes, even if it's true? Like maybe they merge V'ger and the Whale Probe into one entity, or with so many Klingon enemies they merged Kruge and Chang into one villain that he has to single handedly fight to save the Federation.
There is definitely an in-universe Voyager biopic.

Well, we have seen various shows make references to another tv shows (or movies) and later make reference to a character (or actually see them) from that show/movie as if they exist in their universe.

Why not?

Data, in the TNG episode "The Neutral Zone", states, in their universe, and succinctly, when television stopped being "a thing". The cutoff, in Startrekland, is 2040.

In an early TNG episode, Picard talked of a personal relaxation light and a book, and Riker had that hologram-emitting dish with two ladies playing instruments. Thoe, holodeck, et al, replaced outdated medium such as televised plays or even video games, though the holodeck does add a new dimension to "first person shooter", or seeing solitaire cards fly up in front of you - those examples are still underwhelming, given what the holodeck device can potentially do. See "The Big Goodbye" for a better one.

They watch Captain Proton.
It just occurred to me, next time we get a time travel to modern times story, it should include a modern reboot of Captain Proton which is either a pastiche of Abrams Trek or something that's meant to be obviously "woke" like Captain Proton is in fact a bumbling fool and it's Constance Goodheart who always saves the day or something. Or Proton and Buster Kincaid are women with a male lackey who is always getting into trouble.

Instead of black-and-white, it's orange-and-teal.

With the character who grew up watching the "modern" version meeting someone old who grew up with the "orginal series Proton", like someone from far into the future growing up as SNW as the Star Trek, going back in time and meeting a TOS purist?

And then have one of the modern-day characters mention that all the channels on the Net are overflowing with a certain segment of fandom proclaiming that the new showrunners are a bunch of Neo-Trotskyists who are ruining everything that Captain Proton represents.

There’s Star Trek short stories that show Kirk & co traveling to the sixties, telling Roddenberry and the actors everything and swooping off again. Trek may exist within Trek and just not get referenced.

Captain Proton actually has one generation up on Star Trek. Four generations instead of three! There's the 1930s version, the '60s version, the '90s version, and the 2020s version.

So, unfortunately, all the purists are dead.
