Frankly, I think it's giving Trump a lot of credit to assume he doesn't really mean all the horrible things he says he'll do.

I take this as a strange spin on the conventional wisdom that all politicians make impossible promises. "Yes, Hillary Clinton promises free college... and Trump promises to round up all the Muslims. We all know neither of them would ever really do it!"

When someone is telling you their greatest ambition is to be a monstrous enemy to humanity, I dunno, maybe we should believe them!

Yes. And taking that line of thought a step further, if a group of people is rewarding someone for saying that's his ambition, by making him their leader, then maybe we should believe that such a monster is what those people want.

Okay, so he "reached out" to a black church where the pastor is an outspoken supporter of his, and where it's probably safe to assume that a substantial proportion of the parishioners follow the example of their pastor. The event was moderated by another active supporter. In other words, a small and safe environment.

Also, he asked for an invitation to speak to a black church in Flint, MI, agreed to limit his address to certain subjects, and then went off on a highly political tangent, which was exactly what he had agreed not to do. And then had the gall to criticize the pastor for interrupting him. The following day, on Twitter.

Meanwhile, he turned down genuine invitations to address the national meetings of two major black organizations -- the NAACP and the National Urban League. If he'd accepted even one of them, I might take his so-called outreach a bit more seriously.

Everything he does is just for show.

Yeah, do you really think that Trump losing the election is going to shut the Alt Right up? Things have just gotten started.

I just found myself thinking that Trump is the P.T. Barnum of Politicians...assuming you consider him to be one in the first place.

I think that if he loses in November, we'll never hear or see him again. He'll fade to oblivion like many would-be-has-been have done before him.

What are you smoking? He probably would enjoy his life more if he lost. Reality shows that makes The Apprentice look like Wheel of Fortune. Talk Shows that make The View seem tame.

I think people will get sick of this crap pretty fast once the election is over.

He may well fade into oblivion after he loses. But his supporters won't be going anywhere, and the anger, racism, xenophobia, etc., etc., that he made acceptable won't be going anywhere for a long time.

That's a possibility, unfortunately.

The part about his supporters is more than "a possibility". It's a fact. All of that (mostly misdirected) anger and hatred has been there all along, bubbling under the surface. Trump didn't create it, and neither his losing nor his winning will put an end to it. :(

I fear that, no matter who wins, it will take many years to recover from this campaign/election.

I am sure you're right, but if the right person is in the WH, I don't think I'll let that bother me too much.

I mostly agree. But, sadly, if congress stays as Republican and obstinate as it currently is, "the right person" will have a rough time accomplishing her goals. And I'll still have four neighbors (yes, four on my block) flying the Confederate battle flag.

Sorry, I'm sounding really pessimistic tonight, aren't I?!
