Who is 'Future Guy'?

Aviva

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
The Suliban receive their orders from the future but I still don't quite understand who from. Who is that dark figure (popularly known as Future Guy) who stands in the portal talking to Sillik?

I do think that Enterprise storylines can be overly complicated. If you blink, you can miss an important piece of exposition that the whole plot hinges on, which I obviously have done.

Can anyone fill me in?

^ It was never revealed...probably because they couldn't think of a good person. I personally believe it was Daniels...for what it's worth!

So you think Daniels was double-crossing Sillik by feeding him information? Or double-crossing Archer? Or playing them both?

In my own fanon, he was a Romulan agent using the Suliban Kabal to undermine pre-Federation history to their own advantage. Genetically enhancing them for their assignment. Improving on medical advances they used to transform Romulan miners into Remans. Then there's technical information about stealth technology presumably being handed out by Future Guy's faction.

I always thought he was probably a Romulan, as well. It's so their style.

Studying his Broken Bow appearance frame-by-frame, I swear there's the shoulder pad look, bowl haircut and hint of the ears. You can even dissect his dialog and the way it's delivered. "We didn't plan to involve the humans or the Vulcans... not yet." So this Humanoid Figure addressing Silik is apparently neither of those races.

Too bad we can't get our hands on some pre-production shots of James Horan, the actor involved before effects were overlaid. In later returns, he was more human looking with that blurred outline, as if they didn't want to give the game away too early.

Of course, there wasn't actually any plan worked out, but that doesn't mean something couldn't have been done down the road. No one knew Bashir was genetically enhanced until the 5th Season, or that Sisko had a Prophet for a mother. Those important facts were retconned by writers who weren't involved in the initial creation of Deep Space Nine and its characters.

Possibly, or else it was Daniels from two different points in his life, he started out as a good-guy then ended up being future guy after something (though future guy was supposed to be from an earlier time so I'm not sure how I would reconcile that.)

It was just my theory when Ent was first on!

^Or he was first a bad guy, and then redeemed himself and used timetravel to stop his past self from doing bad stuff. Though I find the idea of him becoming evil more probable. In that case, he may have been forced to flee his own timeline and go to the 27th century, where he became Future Guy.

Though I think a Romulan is much more likely. It seems like he wanted Earth weakened, but not destroyed, as he helped in "The Expanse". I personally think this is because the Andorians tried to use the Xindi technology they acquired in "Proving Ground" against Romulus during the Romulan war, but Archer managed to convinve them not to do it, or stop them.

We will never know who Future Guy was. A shame, as its one of my gripes with ENT. Maybe season five would have revealed him. Well, I guess not, because they wrapped up the TCW storyline in Storm Front.

Maybe FG was Vosk? (That 29th century Nosferatu-esque guy in Nazi regalia)

I always thought he was Vulcan or Romulan- I swear you could see it in his outline. Every time I looked at him I thought "that's a pointy-ear".

Future Guy being Vosk fits into the storyline quite well, I suppose. Did Vosk ever mention what species he was?

That's a good point. A weakened Federation is better than having no Federation to stop groups like the Xindi and Andorians from running around destroying whole planets with ease. At least the Federation is known for only fighting if attacked and is not aggressive like the Klingons or Dominion. The Federation just assimilates planets peacefully;)

Probably Vosk, as his death is immediately followed by Daniels declaring that the timeline has been restored.

But there IS something to be said about Future Guy being a Romulan. After all, in the final ep of Season 2, there was a mysterious Vulcan claiming to be a scientist, who came to sickbay and started questioning Archer about Future Guy. Phlox exposed him as a fraud, and the Vulcan promptly stormed out.

Hmm....

future guy is probably Spock, manipulating the past and creating the post-ENT timeline so that the new Enterprise, 100 years later, would be powerful enough to take on the Narada.

Knowing the future of Romulus, this seems all the more likely now. This was always my guess as well.
