Wonderlust King

Probably been done before, but I'm curious, which of the 5 captains do you like the most? I'm not going to include Pike because we didn't see enough of him.

For me its a tie between Kirk and Sisko. They are both badasses in their own way. Kirk was never afraid to go on away teams and be in the shit with his men unlike a certain bald headed captain that won't be named. Kirk was also clever, I always like clever characters that can outsmart their enemies. Sisko made DS9 for me, I felt we finally got a captain with a personality after TOS. He was also a world class badass.

Don't get me wrong, I love Picard, he is a strong number three for me, but I just don't feel the magic as I do with Kirk and Sisko. Although I have always loved "Enter" and "Tea Earl Grey Hot".

Sisko is the best captain. Kirk is a great character, and if you were asking about favorite characters, I'd vote for him instead, but I wouldn't want to serve on his crew - he's a loose cannon. Sisko is badass but smart and knows when to hang back and not jump into something feet first.

Wow, so far I'm the minority. I'll have to go with Picard since I grew up with him and I'm totally bias.

I like them all, maybe with Archer as the only exception.

It's a close call between Janeway and Picard but Janeway gets my vote.

I liked Janeway's way of caring for her crew, I always got the impression that she was ready to sacrifice herself to save a crew member if necessary. I also liked how she managed to handle the difficult situation she had to face, being stranded with her ship in an unknown part of space.

Picard is great too, a role model for a leader.

Kirk is a great personality but could act like a jerk from time to time. A bit unbalanced but still a good leader.

Sisko is good but little too introvert for my taste.

Archer? Well I never really liked Enterprise" and I found Archer too wooden.

kirk -- simply the best. better than all the rest
picard -- a future day sean connery bond
sisko -- a man for all seasons
janeway -- an officer and a lady
archer -- a cowboy on a hoverboard

Sisko is the one I'd rather serve under. He doesn't have the uppityness of Picard or Janeway, and he's actually competant unlike Archer. Kirk would probably just use me as phaser fodder, but Sisko strikes me the most as actually giving a damn about the people who serve under him.

I like all of them also. I voted for Picard because TNG was my first intorduction to ST many years ago.

Kirk and Sisko. but I also admit to having a tender spot for Archer. I think he got a bad deal.

Picard and Janeway. I'd gladly follow either of them anywhere. Much as I enjoy TOS I wouldn't follow Kirk across a room (he's far too easily distracted by the babe of the week). Sisko I wouldn't follow into the room in the first place (he just does nothing for me whatsoever - zero inspiration or interest). Archer would probably be captured before he got to the room (I simply didn't find the character credible). So Picard and Janeway for mine.

Wow, this is an impossible poll! Enterprise is my favorite Trek, and Archer is an interesting character--but not my favorite Captain. I love Picard for what he is--he's great, but he doesn't have all that many layers--he's almost too wise to be interesting. I'm going through Voyager for the first time on dvd, and falling in love with Janeway--her body language and prescence--but I think it was strongest early on and got a little rigid later. Don't watch DS9, so can't judge Sisko.

Frankly, it's apples, oranges, peaches, pears, and berries. All have their strengths and weaknesses, no two are really all that alike.

In the end, I guess that it has to be Kirk--especially in season 1. I still get some goosebumps at the end of Balance of Terror when Kirk goes striding off. Shatner was a really, really fine actor back then, and the character was very well written. Shatner made Kirk seem very raw and natural when when Shatner was at his best. Mulgrew has that quality, too, in some of the episodes--especially in seasons 2 and 3. Stewart as Picard would be third, Bakula as Archer fourth, and Brooks as Sisko last.

Kirk, Picard, and Sisko. All very well written and acted. Shatner and Brooks occasionally are criticized for their acting styles, but I've always liked them.

Janeway's poorly written, but she's usally saved by Mulgrew's charisma.
Archer's whiney and incompetent. Poorly written. Poorly acted.

Sisko and Picard. Not that I don't like the others, but if I'd have to choose, I'd serve with them.

But I'm rather fond of Archer and Janeway, too. Not to mention Kirk. :)

I love everyone!

For me it is Captain Janeway because she is a woman that deserves respect and compassion for her strength to get her crew home.
