Who I Think Should be the Next Companion after Amy/Rory

Joe Washington

I think the Doctor should have his daughter Jenny from Season 4 as his next companion after Amy and Rory inevitably leaves the show. Think about a father-daughter dynamic with its share of conflicts and fun on top of the Doctor's adventures through time and space. They could either use the same actress who played Jenny in Season 4 or recast her and use the explanation of her regenerating off-screen in the midst of her long search for her father. I'm sick of the Doctor getting paired with women who are sometimes played off as potential love interests for the Doctor. I want a different kind of relationship between the Doctor and his future companion.

You of course mean Jenny right? Not Jenna :) I think we're getting a little bit ahead of ourselves when Amy and Rory are still on the show.

Sorry. I just corrected the mistake. And I have this feeling that Amy and Rory may leaving the show at the end of this season.

As far as I'm concerned, if the BBC doesn't outright give them their own series, the next companions appeared in A Good Man Goes to War. (Sorry to be so vague, but the spoiler tag function doesn't seem to be working for me. If you saw the episode, you know who I'm talking about.)

Companions almost always have a short tenure, so if Amy and Rory stay beyond Series 6 I will be very surprised as well. I hope they do, but I have to agree there's a lot of "between the lines" reading going on in recent interviews given by Karen and Arthur. Then again, Matt Smith just gave an interview that some are interpreting as meaning he's leaving too, which is unlikely.

Clyde and Rani, or Madame Vastra and Jenny. Though, really, both pairings deserve their own show...

To be fair isn't the average tenure as the Doctor around 3/4 years.

William Hartnel 1963-1966 (3 tears)

Patrick Troughton 1966-1969 (3 Years)

Jon Pertwee 1970-1974 (4 years)

Tom Baker 1974-1981 ( 7 years)

Peter Davision 1981-1984 (3 years)

Colin Baker 1984-1986 (2 years)

Sylvester McCoy 1987-1996 (9 years true only 2 were on screen)

Paul McGann 1996 (1 episode)

Christopher Eccleston 2005 (1 year)

David Tennant 2005-2010 ( 5 years)

Matt Smith 2010 - ( 2 years so far)

So perhaps he will be moving on soon.

It makes sense really. After what happened o Saturday I just can't see them having much enthusiasm for the 'travelling in time and space' thing for much longer.

... or recast her and use the explanation of her regenerating off-screen in the midst of her long search for her father....

That doesn't work at all, since she was shown to regenerate already, and she kept her appearance. Jenny doesn't change when she regenerates, so they should use the same actress, or find one who looks close enough to get the job done.

It just seems hard to think that the mother of David Tennant's children could be seduced back into Whovian quaters so easily... That kid however is going to get "destiny" rot his whole life, because everyone is going to think he should be just like his Pa and his Poppy.

Worse still, if something happened to Amy, then Rory suddenly with options, would have no choice but to bed the Doctors Daughter for playing slack and tickle with his own precious bundle of joy since before she was born.

Jenny didn't regenerate. Either it was the terraform gas working its mojo or, and my opinion, it was the same as Ten regrowing his hand as she was within 15 hours of creation/regeneration.

As for the next companion. It would be nice to see Rani and Clyde, or at least just Clyde, get a run, even if it was just for a season. Especially given that Clyde manages not to fall into the henpecked/doofus trap of say Mickey/Rory (although it'd be unfair to say that's all they are) whilst not going too far the other way and being a macho idiot!

Madam Vastra and Jenny? Oh that'd be fun, especially if the Doctor was particularly dense about things "Why do you want to share a room, there's no need, the Tardis has hundreds and...oh...oh right, I see..." But let's be honest, a lizard woman can only fit in so many places and the whole "Just act like you belong" notion only works so far.

Starkers, Jenny was dead. And then she wasn't. If they wanted it to be seen as anything BUT a regeneration, they shouldn't have used the regeneration effect for it. And I'm okay with her retainin' her appearance after a regeneration, since it could easily be a side effect of the rapid clonin' process that created her in the first place.

Watch it again, it wasn't a regeneration effect as such, certainly not in the truest sense of the word.

She was lucky, very very lucky... She was still within the first 24 hours of "being born" which means that she can do...

I'd like them to introduce completely new characters. And I do think that the eleventh Doctor works really well with a full Tardis Gang instead of a single Companion.

As much as I love Amy and Rory, I AM looking forward to the time when we can see this Doctor with some different full-time companions.

Don't think it should be Jenny though. Seeing her reuinited again with the 10th Doctor would have been fun, but by this point I think we need to see someone new.

Ah, but in the comic strip the Doctor travelled with a penguin. And later a fish woman.

And Vastra's managed to do OK in 19th century London. They could always set up a work around - portable perception filter or something - if for no other reason than to give Neve McIntosh a break from the makeup occasionally.

(As an off-topic aside, if anyone from AudioGO is listening - get that woman a contract to read Doctor Who books the next time you're assigning readers. What a voice! ;) )

Clyde should become a companion just for all his SF/fantasy references which will probably confuse the Doctor 50% of the time!

Madam Vastra could wear a holographic disguise making her look human so the actress wouldn;t have to wear the lizard makeup all the time....

Am I the only one who has no clue who Madam Vastra was supposed to be when she showed up 'A Good Man Goes to War'?
