Who else loves the Yellowjackets?

The TVH soundtrack is often unfairly criticized, as I've always said, and now, listening to the album for the first time without also seeing the film, I can see where people feel it may be the weakest ST score.

But how can one not love the Kenny G. stylings of the Yellowjackets tracks? With the sax and the funky of their renditions of Rosenman's theme?

Seriously, vintage 80s Star Trek pop! What's not to love? :D

^I love the TVH main theme. It's playful and adventurous, keeping with the tone of the movie. I also like Rosenman's rendition of the TOS theme when the E-A leaves dock.

Not to mention the Yellowjacket's San Francisco street theme.

I like the Trek IV soundtrack. Like James Horner, Rosenman was a great composer who just didn't have that many scores in him. A lot of his other work that I've heard sounds similar enough that I'm happy enough just owning his Star Trek CD (and his Planet of the Apes scores).

Still, I wish the CD was longer though. Where's "I Hate You" when you need it? :p

IMHO, this was the weakest of the movie scores. I did like The Ballad of the Whales and Market Street as standalone tracks, but the rest of the album sounded like the theme from the Star Trek Christmas Special.

I'm sure that Nimoy really pushed for a lighter score to go accompany the lighter theme of the film, but the soundtrack came off way too bubbly and never really conveyed a sense of tension.

I do like it better, however, than Goldsmith's endless repetitions of his two main themes "TMP title" and "Klingon theme" in his later scores. Or Horner's a-bit-too-much-TWOK score for TSFS.

I like having recurring themes in the movie or TV series I watch. The Goldsmith TMP/TNG theme says "Star Trek" to me just as much as any of John Williams scores say "Star Wars" or "Indiana Jones" or "Superman" to me. The most disappointing thing about Never Say Never Again was that they were not allowed to use the classic standard Bond theme.

Or Horner's a-bit-too-much-TWOK score for TSFS.
All of Horner's scores sound alike to me.

Just where is our future, the things we've done and said!
Let's just push the button, we'd be better off dead!
'Cause I hate you!
And I berate you!
And I can't wait to get to you!

The sins of all our fathers, being dumped on us — the sons.
The only choice we're given is how many megatons?
And I eschew you!
And I say, screw you!
And I hope you're blue, too.

We're all bloody worthless, just greedy human scum.
The numbers all add up to a negative sum.

'Cause I hate you!
Yes I hate you!
And I hate you...too!

Where is our future, the things we've done and said!

Thank you, indysolo. If that were ever to hit CD, I'd buy it.

The neighbors, most likely, would think I had gone off my rocker when I listened to it. But I'm guessing they already think that so where's the CD already?

The yellow jackets are one of the better Jazz bands I have ever heard... As far as I know I never heard Kenny G style anything they did... If they did I would like to hear that.

I followed both groups for a while and saw both in concert... both performances were excellent.

In fact I got everythng Kenny G ever did... starting with duotones (because g-force and gravity albums sucked) (Early Kenny G) and all the Yellow Jackets Albums.

I enjoy their music alot... :)

Well, don't get me wrong, I have a Kenny G. greatest hits album too. Great bathtub listening. (And yes, I AM gay, thank you very much!)

But no, listen to "The Ballad of the Whale" on the TVH soundtrack album. It's a Yellowjackets version of the Rosenman whale theme. Sounds a lot like Kenny G. to me.

interesting. I have all of kenny g stuff. I goto concerts in Vegas and Phoenix when I can... You are right, its great music. And you don't have to be GAY to listen to it.

He's a good jazz artist...

If not for the Generations score, freom which I remember NOTHING, Trek IV's music would be my least favorite of any Trek film.

I wish I'd had that song the past school year...

I've always loved the Yellowjackets (check my screen name and yeah, I DO play sax). Thought the ST IV score and Jackets contributions to same rocked!

Kenny G is my wife's favorite sax player. I'd rather hear her G CDs than death metal at the end of a hard day at work. I like all kinds of jazz - traditional, bop, contemporary, you name it.
