Who do you want to play the 13th Doctor?

no he should be played by the best actor for the role. race isn't important. or gender.

The Doctor should definitely be a male, and preferably be white too though I am open to suggestions. Definitely a big fan of the idea of Alexander Siddig in the role. I wouldn't mind a non-white actor if they actually suited the part. The problem is almost none of the non-white proposed candidates ever do fit the part. Patterson Joseph? What!? That guy was terrible in Series 1.

If race or gender isn't important, then why do some people keep pushing for a black or female doctor? It's not like they're pushing for one black or one female actor to take up the role, they're pushing for a black or female actor.

That's an agenda. I have no problem with a black female taking on the role, but I damned sure don't want that happening just because a bunch of vocal yahoos somehow think it's the right thing because it's somehow "progressive."

Plenty of people online have said they were disappointed we didn't get a black Doctor. They're not disappointed Idris Elba or Patterson Joseph didn't get the role, they're pissed off The Doctor isn't black.

They then claim skin colour isn't important. :wtf:

Just an excuse for progressive "liberals" () to wear their trendy political views as fashion accessories in every arena, no matter how irrelevant or unwelcome.

I don't see what violent street culture has to do with the casting of media stars in high profile roles for BBC productions. I also think drawing correlation between my views on the Zimmerman verdict and the casting for a children's television series is frivolous.

The only agenda here is yours, and it was completely torn apart in that thread you linked to.

You're even changing the wording to say 'street culture' now. You know damn well you have a chip on your shoulder about black people. Just admit it.

No, and the fact you equate a desire for a black Doctor as a way of distancing yourself from racism proves your agenda even further. The same intellectually dishonest position you used in that thread.

If you don't want a black Doctor then why are you even arguing with me? Other than to further swell up your ego by making this thread a place for your empty political rhetoric?

I stand by what I said about violent street culture in that thread. I also think it has nothing to do with this discussion and you're just trying to prop yourself up on a soap box as this section's moral compass, purely for your own ego.

I have never seen any thing that would indicate to me that Idris Elba has any kind of violent disposition.

I have no idea what the man's personal life is like. I just don't think he's shown any range outside of gruff, aggressive roles so don't think he'd be a very good fit for The Doctor.

Even if for some reason, and to satisfy some agenda, we desperately needed a black Doctor right now, he'd be as far away from the top of my list as possible.

So the person who compares casting a white 20 something skinny Jewish actor with a high pitched voice as an iconic black leader with a baritone voice, whose color was essential to his identity, experience and endurance to casting a black actor as a fictional alien who changed his every cell every time he regenerates doesn't have a racist agenda. Course not. Silly politically correct me.

Agreed :).

I can occasionally see hints of something fitting for the Doctor in Idris Elba's facial expressions, but AFAIK he's not a chameleon type actor so there's not going to be anything beyond that.

Agreed. It would even be fun to see such a tough guy in the role if he consistently played it as gentle as possible, going completely against typecasting. And then, in those rare moments when the Doctor needs to be furious, there's always that scary well to draw from.

There is something very nice about his gentle eyes (?) or something.

Not 100% sure about that though as he's usually just funny when he's aggressive...

Meanwhile, a vaguely autistic tomboy seems like the perfect direction to go in after this manly man Capaldi. They're setting this up.

I'd actually enjoy if if Elba played the role as some autistic, gentle, eccentric giant. If he played the character the exact opposite of how he normally plays his roles, he'd be awesome. I just haven't seen any sign yet he could do that.
