However, whoever he's playing, that character also could have been played by a Latino. That rules out Khan and Gary Seven. Possibilities include Romulans and Klingons (my quatloos are on the latter).

Considering the villain's character could be played by either a Latin (Del Toro) or a "pasty-faced Brit" (Cumberbatch), I'm guessing the actor's physical appearance is not that specifically important to the character.

That may be due to the use of heavy makeup (i.e., an alien with prosthetic makeup), or maybe because the villain's "heritage" is ambiguos enough that the actor's ethnicity does not make a difference.

Although, having said that, Cumberbatch's "Sherlock Holmes" looks vaguely/oddly ethnic sometimes, probably due to his jet-black curly hair. His beady little eye will make for a great-looking villain, IMO.

I don't think that Cucumbersnatch is going to play any character previously seen in TOS. I'd also bet that any character from TOS outside Kirk & Co will be short 5 second cameos or side mentions.

If Cumberbatch IS playing a Vulcan villain (and I have ho reason to think he is, except my own wild speculation), then I would rather him play a Vulcan who is NOT Sybok.

Again, I have no reason to believe he will be a Vulcan, but I just think Cumberbatch would make a fine Vulcan.
He would have made a good NuSpock if this was 3 years ago (although I do like Quinto in the role).
