Who do you take after most?

Yeoman Randi

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Between my mom and my dad, i think it's pretty clear to everyone who knows/knew them and me, i take after my dad.

I love music, so did my dad. My mother actually hates music. Can you believe that? How can anyone actually hate music? She does.

My dad was a "treasure hunter". He loved combing the beaches with his metal detector and finding lost coins and jewelry. The amount of gold and silver he found and cashed in would astound you. (Side note: the jewelry people wear to the beach is mind blowing. HUGE gold chains, rings etc. LOST in the water. Found under the sand by my dad.)

I've been a "picker" my entire life starting from a young age. I have always loved going to garage sales, estate sales, auctions, whatever and finding treasures to either keep or sell for more money.

My dad was more of a loner, preferred to stay in and listen to music, watch tv etc. My mother is a social butterfly and lines up at least 3-4 things to do every single day.

I would rather stay in my cave doing the same things he did, or be on the internet than have the whirlwind schedule my mother has.

My mother is a clothes horse. My dad could wear the same thing everyday and be happy. I can't stand shopping for clothes, and when i am in for the day i pretty much wear the same few incredibly comfortable things i own. Clothes are of no interest to me.

Even the weird arthritis i have, my dad had.

My mother went gray at an early age. My father up until the day he died had very few gray hairs. Luckily i have very few gray hairs and people can't believe that i don't color my hair at all.

And, the weirdest thing of all, i have the same single hair on my arm that, unlike all the other arm hairs that don't grow, this one GROWS and has to be cut! Bizarro, right? This one hair that just grows and grows. And i have to cut it on a regular basis! My father had that same hair.

So....between your mom and dad, who do you take after most and why?

I'm much like my mother, except that I'm a more tactile person than she ever was. My mother was sacrastic, musical, friendly, open-minded, lazy at times, had a great sense of humour, and was a good cook and needlecrafter. I'm also a shortass, just like my mother's side of the family. From my dad I get my stubborness and my lousy eyesight.

My dad. I look, sound, and act like him. I have all his mannerisms, the same interests, and basically the same views on life. I am virtually a clone of him.

My dad and brother both insist that I take after him, but since they are both well known worthless liars, I have to believe my mom and grandma (her mom), when they told me that I take after grandpa (her dad). This makes the most sense since he and I always got along best and share similar temperments.

My Mom. I look just like her, except that I'm taller. I'm not anywhere as skilled or as hard a worker as she is, but I value the same types of things. I keep my own company and am generally not very social, just like her; I find joy in Christmas and giving gifts, just like her. I love animals, am a die-hard Democrat and have a great love for the arts. All that I got from my Mom.

Wow, Auntie, you are very pretty! And you do look a lot like your mom, minus the wrinkles.

I'm a combination of my mom and dad. But I'd like to think that I have more of my mom's positive attitude, gentleness, and honesty.

When I smile I look like my mother, and when I don't I look like my father.

As for the rest, I've been told that I've got my maternal grandfather's personality almost perfectly, plus my mother's interest in learning and the arts, and father's general temperament, enthusiasm, thought patterns and persistent hirsuteness. And hands.

Thanks, scottydog. That's one of the few pictures of me that I actually like, because the lighting is so soft, you can't see my wrinkles.

My mom and I look very much alike. Whenever we are out together, people comment on it. The only difference, besides the age, is that I'm 5'6", and mom is barely 5 feet on tiptoe.

I look just like my father. At one family wedding, a relative called me by my father's nickname and said "You haven't changed in 25 years!"

Aw, that's a great story.

Scotty, something tells me that must be true....although for the life of me i can't figure out why......

*link removed by me. It just dawned on me that you might not want that on here. *bangs head on keyboard*

Auntie Hill, i agree with Scott, you're gorgeous! Great smile!!

I forgot to mention that like you Auntiehill, my dad passed along his love of animals and especially dogs. My mother could give a fig about animals and actually hates dogs (and cats.)

Hmm, what was the removed link? And as for that keyboard-banging, well, that's definitely something your father would do!

I don't know who I am closest to in personality (I'm an odd duck). I am certainly nothing like my mother, nor my grandparents. I have been told I am remarkably like my father in appearance. The only bits of my mother I have are her ears, eyebrows, and knees (they're all rather unusual). I would much rather have inherited her fantastic legs, but no such luck. Otherwise, we don't look remotely related.

I don't really look like either of them, but personality wise I'm closer to my mom. Fairly reserved personality, a little uncomfortable in big groups, and scientifically inclined.

I'm really not a whole lot like my parents, which made our relationships difficults at times until we could all respect each other as adults. They're nice people, but made some poor decisions in life that I tried to do the opposite of.

Financially, career wise, and health wise, they definitely did some stuff that contributed to my dad's death and and the financial mess they were in during his later years that my mom is now dealing with.

I linked to your book on Amazon. I think anyone who could write a book about Heroes has to be a pretty thoughtful, kind person. I'm so proud of you, btw. I love sharing your essays with my friends. {{{squishy hug}}}

^You're very kind, Randi. Rightbackatcha with the hug! (which is definitely something my mother, not my father, would do)

My father and I looked as much alike as is possible for an older male and younger female. My personality and values are more like his than my mother's, too.
