Who do you see as Uhura?

Triptacular

Captain
Captain
Casting Sheet description:

UHURA] 25ish -African American. Brilliant, beautiful, heroic and FUN!, Uhura is almost tom-boyish - as if she grew up in a houseful of brothers.

Tatyana Ali -- Link: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004700/

The Fresh Prince of Bel Air's little cousin is now 28yrs old. I think she has the kind of spunk they're looking for according to the casting sheet.

I hope they call her in for an audition.

I don't seen Uhura or any of the other younger officers at all.

While I've no clue what age Kirk will be in this, I'm guessing he'll be an Ensign/Lieutenant and if that's the case, the only other characters we should see, based on age, would be Spock, McCoy and Scotty.

If Kirk was in his mid 30s during TOS, then Sulu and Uhura, I think, would be mid-late 20s (we know Chekov was 22 in his first appearance). So, assuming Kirk's rank in the movie and comparable age, Sulu, Uhura and Chekov should be in early to mid teens.

Jada Pinkett-Smith. She's not 25, but I think she could still pass for one though.

Tatyana Ali is a good choice too...

Jada Pinkett-Smith would be good, but she may be too known for the role. If that matters to Abrams, that it.

Merrin Dungey-who's already worked with Abrams in ALIAS as Sidney's best friend Francine

Gabrielle Union-who's also did a guest stint on DS9 as N'Garen in "Sons and Daughters"

Renee Goldsberry-who played Crewman J. Kelly on ENT ep. "Vox Sola", perhaps the best thing about that episode.

Meagan Goode-last seen in "Stomp the Yard".

Freema Agyeman-currently Martha on "Doctor Who"

Megalyn Echikunwoke-Nicole Palmer on "The 4400"

Aisha Tyler-last seen on "Ghost Whisperer"

Bianca Lawson-Kendra on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"

Nia Long-last seen in "Are We Done Yet?"

Zoe Saldana-from the film Guess Who and POTC: Curse of the Black Pearl

Naomie Harris-from the Miami Vice movie and the Pirate of the Carribean movies.

Anika Noni Rose-the one everyone forgot in the film "Dreamgirls".

Beyonce-Hey, I know many of you would hate that, but none of you can deny she would definitely work that red mini. And she could get Trek a hit single or sound track too. When was the last time that happened?

Kenya Moore-former Miss USA. Granted she's not the best actress on this list, but just like Beyonce she would be great to look at.

I think there are a lot of young, black actresses out there that could do the role of Uhura proud and perhaps even help add to the character and her legacy.

In addition to the ones I listed, there are many, many more who could do just as well.

However, I think Jada Pinkett-Smith is too old for the role. Tatyana Ali is a good choice though. I would like to see her in more stuff.

Granted Uhura could have used a lot more development in the TOS and movie era. I don't see very many of these women as capable of playing Uhura, half of them would just be too expensive, and most of the other half I don't consider as capable.

Goes to show them that TOS is not the right scenario for another Trek motion picture.

They are all great however many off those candiate on this list are simbly to old :(
They are looking for actress in here 25ish, off course we can find actresses older then 30s that can pull off beeing in here 25ish. However we have to think about maybe 1 0r 2 sequells then many on this list are pushing on 40s.
Anika Noni Rose, Gabrielle Union, Merrin Dungey, Renee Goldsberry , Nia Long, Aisha Tyler , Kenya Moore are in their 35 to 37 years old ruled them out as candinate for Uhura part.
I like Zoe Saldana, Freema Agyeman, Megalyn Echikunwoke,Kerry Washington and Meagan Goode for Uhura.
Bianca Lawson-Kendra is too lightskinned for Uhura.

If i might add Nollywood actress and model Agbani Darego 24 years old former miss Nigeria and first black African crowned as Miss World. Big question is can she act.

So basically you're saying you don't want them to make a TOS movie because finding an inexpensive black actress would be too hard? I think you might be showing some bias here. . . just a bit.

Because we know that by the TNG-DS9-VOY era all women of African decent have gone extinct and this wouldn't be an issue right?

What I was saying is that a few of them could do it, but why do it just for the sake of doing it. 1st on my list is Freema Agyeman, but I don't see us snagging her.

I have some reverence in my heart for Nichelle Nichols as Uhura, she was a class act. I don't want to see Uhura recast, especailly at a point where the character is less developed. This detracts from the character and Nichelle's portrayal of Uhura.

I don't want that.

Uhura barely had a character to begin with, and her role in this film won't require any more heavy lifting than was of Nichols.

And don't kid yourself. Nichelle might have been a class act, sure, but she's hardly indispensable or irreplaceable.

Anika Noni Rose sounds like a good choice. Even tho she had a small role in Dreamgirls, she made the most of it.

She probably can't act, but she looks incredibly like Storm from X-Men!

Yeah you are proparly right. She is perhaps also too tall(6,0 feet) but damm she would fit great in catsuit like 7of9 and Tpol if she were cast as Uhura. :D

What do you mean by capable? I think Nichelle Nichols was great in the role and did well with what little she was given. She also was a great ambassador for Star Trek. But even Nichols had problems with her underwritten role.

It doesn't take much acting to say "Hailing Frequencies Open" or something to that effect. I also question your contention about how expensive many of these actresses would be. I don't think any that I named would be that 'expensive' at all, even the more well known like Gabrielle Union. Getting work in Hollywood is hard, and there are a lot of actors/actress that mix up TV and movie roles. I'm sure they aren't getting always paid the same amount for each. Plus, with the potential for a Star Trek franchise to spawn multiple films, merchandising, etc. it could be a gold mine.

I didn't care for the idea of a remake/reimagination, and even though I don't think it will happen in this new Trek film/franchise, there is great potential to flesh out the character of Uhura. It's unfortunate that Nichols never got the chance to do that on film, except for Of Gods and Men.

As for the other poster who said some of the women I listed were too old. You got a point. However, many of those women don't look like they are in their mid or late 30s.

Agreed i was pointing out if this casting sheet is real those women i pointed as ,,too old''
acording to that sheet. It would make more sense hiring yonger actress for Uhura part if there are going to be a sequels

Okay, an example of who I'd like to see in this role... this is the Miss Ethiopia 2006, their candidate in the Miss Universe competition, a woman named Dina Fekadu. She's nearly PERFECT for the role, if you ask me. And she's not "African American," she's actually AFRICAN.
