Who do you believe in the great Spock death debate: Shatner or Nimoy?

Re: Who do you believe in the great Spock death debate: Shatner or Nim

I think there's a middle ground.

I do think Nimoy wanted to move on since his experience with the franchise was not very positive since Season 3:

#1) He didn't care for the quality nosedive in Season 3.
#2) He wasn't getting along with Roddenberry
#3) He was suing Paramount for using his likeness to sell merchandise
#4) He didn't like the way TMP turned out.

But it wouldn't surprise me to find out that Nimoy, in filming TWOK, might've taken Bennett aside during the course of production and said something to the effect of, "Y'know, I'm really enjoying this. I wish we could leave a window open." To which Bennett would reply, "Well, I had an idea about that..."

And they probably kept it between them, which---if true---would make it a phenomenally smart marketing strategy.

"Middle ground" is unnecessary when there's an interview where Nimoy tells the story in detail. I wish I could find it quickly. "Middle ground" also implies we can decide for ourselves via compromise what Nimoy experienced - something with which I disagree. That said, you're probably pretty close.

By the way, Nimoy believed "The Wrath of Khan" saved the franchise, so he was pretty keen on the movie.

Nimoy and Shatner simply have different perspective on things. Nimoy was particularly concerned about the quality of the content. He cared much for character development. While Shatner was predominately concerned about great acting. Of course I am painting with big brushes and overly generalizing but basically they had different points of view.

Which brings me to something that always bothered me, the "my friend" thing between the two actors. Undoubtedly they did see eye to eye on some things but I have a feeling this "friendship" was exaggerated for mostly marketing purposes. Perhaps I am totally wrong but Shatner's occasional flippant attitude is in very deep contrast with Nimoy's seriousness which makes me doubt they could be best friends.
