Who did the voice of the Kobayashi Maru commander in TWOK?

A thread discussing the scenario in the Trek XI forum got me to wondering who provided the voice of the distress call. Anyone of note, or just a jobbing voice actor?

Anyone know?

When I saw the film on opening night, I thought it sounded like John Winston who, of course, returned as Commander Kyle on the Reliant in that movie. (He also did a voice in TOS - as the male computer voice in "Mirror, Mirror".)

But... IMDB lists a "Radio voice" in ST II as being actor David Ruprecht. Better known as the previously-unknown son of Thurston Howell III on the telemovie/series pilot, "Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island".

Wow, color me surprised. I would never have connected the two pieces of work. I saw the the GI film ages ago when it first aired (hey, I'll watch Martin Landau in anything), and recall that Ruprecht basically just did a bad Jim Backus-as-Thurston Howell schtick throughout the film.

Thanks, very interesting info. I would never have thought it sufficient enough role for IMDb to list the voice actor.

There were several other radio voices in TWOK however. The Kobayashi Maru voice is more pertinent to the story of course, but is it possible he was also the other male radio voices? Voice over artists are known for their ability to portray different sounding people. There is a male crew member that clears Kirk's travel pod for docking and also the Starfleet operations voice that clears Enterprise for departure. Another male voice is heard on the Reliant just before Terrell and Chekov beam down but that could have been Kyle or Beach.

The only other radio voice I can think of is in that same travel pod scene where a female voice follows up with a welcome and a "Prepare for docking" imperative for Kirk's party. A female name is given for the other "Radio voice" in the credits.

I was guessing the credit referred to the Kobayashi Maru mayday message because that male voice came over a simulation of subspace "radio", whereas most other voices were internal starship intercom voices, or "Computer voice". He also gets quite a few lines, whereas most others are a few brief words.

(I still wouldn't be surprised if it was John Winston.)
