Who Are Your Heroes?

JD

I've mentioned a few times in the animals thread that there is a really horrible animal cruelty case going on right now out in New Jersey, and I think around 30 different sanctuaries have all come together to help get the animals out and clean up the place it happened. I've seen videos and pictures that some of the sanctuaries have been posting, and it is just nightmarish, with trash and shit everywhere and sick and skinny animals living in the same pastures where the decaying bodies of the dead. And despite all of that, they're still there, and have now moved around 100 animals out of the place. The thing that really makes this hard is that the person responsible was a member of their own sanctuary community, they worked with them on a regular basis, and was a neighbor of the woman who has been in charge of this whole thing. They really are my heroes, for going through that, for seeing what was happening, and doing something about it.
Here's a partial list of some of the sanctuaries that have been involved:
  • Rancho Relaxo
  • The Riley Farm Rescue
  • Bluemont Equine Sanctuary
  • Furvivors
  • Fawn's Fortress
  • Sowa Goat Sanctuary
  • Last Chance Ranch
  • Old Fogey Farm
  • Blackbird Animal Refuge
  • Sleepy Pig Farm
And not just them, all of the people out there running these kind of animal sanctuaries, for seeing animals who are sick, or hurt, or are in bad situations and doing something about it.

My other heroes right now are the doctors and nurses who have been dealing with the COVID pandemic. Some of them have given up being with their families, and all of them have been risking their lives by potentially exposing themselves to this deadly virus.
I know a lot of people talk about athletes or actors, or people like that being their heroes, and that's fine for them, but my heroes are the people who are out there saving lives, and making the world a better place.

Okay, my hero's are simply anyone who gives a darn and then does something postive/good/helpful/kind etc.. about whatever the problem, person, animal, place, or thing that needs help or change or maybe even just a hug? Some positive force in this world. I have seen many wonderful things. Little things like helping someone with groceries or helping a little old lady cross the street or simply smiling at someone and saying hi. There are little "it's" and big "it's" all the time. A big one for our town was when a tragedy hit our town and several people were killed and many were left homeless for a while. Everyone pitched in to help. It was amazing all the stores gave free food, clothes, etc. People were helping in every way they could housing was provided. And someone who owned a hot dog stand, for the awful first days gave away free food to all who were helping and affected by it. The whole town came together and helped. Everyone was a hero for those days. So much love and support during that awful time. So I have seen a wide range of "it's" in this life of mine and some were just small things and other huge things, but all of them were about the same thing, someone cared/gave a darn. So a force for caring. The ones who are my hero's are not the horrible or misguided, I would not say they were.
I am trying to say here that anyone at any time can be a hero for good.
I love animals and have seen many wonderful things there as well. And since this post is about who are your heroes I hope we are focusing on the positive here? That was the intent right?

My favorite baseball player, Dave Dravecky.

That’s my hero.

The thread is about personal heroes.

He's my personal hero because of his stand on free speech, for speaking up against oppressive government, for calling out the hypocrisy of the so-called conservative sectors of our government, for speaking out for women's rights...not for his ability to tell a joke. Which he was damn good at.
