who are the most interesting Star Trek aliens?

When the Romulans finally get some much-needed development, the writers will need to be careful to differentiate them from the Cardies, who have moved a bit into Rommie turf via DS9.

Cardies are arrogant and aggressive but essentially self-defeating and tragic. Rommies should be sharp & savvy, and not people we would ever need to feel sorry for.

Right. I agree. What I meant when I said that I see the Cardassians as permutations of the Romulans is that I think that's where they probably would have went with them had they given them their development -- I see shades of Vulcans -> Romulans in the scant Hebitians -> Cardassians backstory, for instance -- and I dearly wish the Romulan/Reman relationship had been much more like the Cardassian and Bajoran than the ridiculous story that was revealed in Nemesis.

The Cardassians are interesting -- in a lot of ways, they remind me of a sort of blend of Russian and German cultures at their most autocratic.

The Romulans, on the other hand, remind me more of this sort of blend of British and Roman cultures.

I picked the Klingons, Andorians and I can't remember what the third one I voted for was. I'll just go with the Romulans and move on.
I have to admit that I picked the Andorians more due to what was done with them in the books, than what was done on screen.
As for the Klingons, I've just always loved for some reason, and from what little we got to see of the Romulans they seemed to be pretty interesting.

Humanity itself was not very well-developed save for in DS9. Overall, I thought we were just kinda glossed over. "We're perfect and happy and right all the time!"

Along with the Vidiians, I'll go for Vulcans and Romulans.

The Q because they are almost godlike in their abilities. I always wondered about the backstory to their race and how truly god like they are.

I always thought the Jarada <sp?> were set up to be quite interesting. Shame that we never actualy saw them really, but an insectoid type race would have been very different to anything that we had seen by that point. I could be wrong, but i think they made an appearance in one of the DS9 relaunch novels...

Well, we did eventually get to insectoids as part of the Xindi race.

Not to mention that TNG essentially flip-flopped the Klingons and Romulans. In TOS, Romulans were the honourable ones, and the Klingons were the devious curs. On DS9, they mainly distinguished the Cardassians from the Romulans by making the latter blander than the former, with only a few exceptions... this style of Romulan was probably best handled on TNG; Sela to one side.

This was a hard question because there are many interesting aliens due to the fact we know so little of them. I did pick the Andorians though, I loved Shran, his releationship with Archer was nicely developed. I found the Q interesting, now sure I liked where they ended up in Voyager - always thought they should have been the focus of one of the TNG movies.

I also picked other because like I said, there are many we know so little about. The Tellerites, Denobulans, Tholians are very interesting to me. I liked the Ferengi though they were jokes in TNG. The Breen are a big mystery as are the Gorn. It was nice to get a bit of a look into the Orions on ENT.

From the choices listed, I picked Andorians, on the basis of Shran and the great Babel-one/Aenar arc in ENT; Romulans, just because Balance of Terror is my favorite episode; and other because the Tholians are the first, best non-humanoid aliens in Trek. (Though I do love the flying blobs from Operation Annihilate.)

I also love Species 8472, despite the colossal lameness that is "In the Flesh."

Out of the list I voted the Romulans, though agree TNG flipped the honour thing from them to the Klingons.

Andorians, high on the list, enjoyed Shran and the Ent episodes with Andorians.

Borg, scary enemy, just not my personal favourite.

Cardassians, take em or leave them.

Ferengi, nice caricature of some of the more greedy human vices.

Klingons. I'm definitely showing my TOS roots here. I liked them in TOS and the TOS movies. I quickly got tired of their portrayal in TNG, DS9 and ENT.

Q episodes just bored the pants off me.
