Who and what do you want to become starship names?

Who and what among nonfictional and fictional people, deities, vehicles, locations, etc. have not yet become naming inspiration for starships (mainly but not necessarily Federation Starfleet), and you want to see them in the Star Trek brand at some point in the future? I have not used Trek main characters in this starting post because those are too easy, but by no means let me stop you from commenting what you want to say. If you want to cite an already-used name which should be expanded into a ship class, such as Star Trek Online's 25th century Shenzhou-class, then you may say that too. And I am being mostly serious with my starting post, but if you want to be a little silly and cite non-Trek brands, then use your imagination as you see fit. I have so very many potential topics to discuss, but I will start with 12 items.

Real world candidates:
  • Corazon Aquino - the Filipino president who led the People Power Revolution to end decades of dictatorship
  • Dave Galanter - the U.S. novelist who used to participate on this very site; we did not interact much, but he was a good guy
  • Xanana Gusmão - the Timorese revolutionary and first president who fought decades of Indonesian occupation
  • Kim Dae-jung (金大中 --> 김대중) - the Korean activist and president who campaigned against decades of military dictatorship
  • Mamoru Mohri (毛利 衛) - the first Japanese astronaut in space
  • Taiwan (台灣) - the island country home to my people; I offer the possible registry NCC-886 in homage to our country calling code
Fictional candidates in canonical Star Trek stories:
  • Kuvak - the moderate Vulcan bureaucrat who finally had enough of the militant V'Las and knocked him out at the apex of the Syrannite crisis in 2154
  • William "Bill" Smiley - the first C-in-C of Starfleet to be shown onscreen; participated in the Khitomer Conference of 2293
  • Donald Varley - captain of the U.S.S. Yamato and friend to Jean-Luc Picard who led the archaeological and strategic mission to uncover the Iconian homeworld, a mission which sadly cost the entire crew their lives in 2365
And honourable mentions for starship names in licensed non-canonical works which have yet to migrate into canon:
  • U.S.S. Sacagawea (NCC-598) - a 23rd century Hermes-class scout named for Sacagawea, the 19th century Shoshone woman who helped the expedition of Meriwether Lewis and William Clark navigate western North America; it was James T. Kirk's first command in The Captain's Oath before the premiere of Strange New Worlds
  • U.S.S. Tereshkova (NCC-1811) - a 23rd century vessel named for Valentina Tereshkova (Валентина Терешкова), the Soviet Russian cosmonaut and first human woman to fly in space; it was mentioned in DIS - Desperate Hours and The Lives of Dax - "Sins of the Mother" and separately appeared in the 2011-2016 Kelvin Timeline comic as an Armstrong-model ship
  • U.S.S. Liu Cixin (NCC-325060) - a 32nd century Mars-class scout named for Liu Cixin (刘慈欣), the 21st century Chinese science fiction novelist; I think the Star Trek: Discovery show team tried to get this one in, but only Eaglemoss material has mentioned the ship so far

Breakfast foods. I mean, who wouldn't want to serve on the USS Waffle, or the USS Sausage?

To “Waffle”:
  • 1.
    NORTH AMERICAN
fail to make up one's mind.
"Joseph had been waffling over where to go"
  • 2.
    BRITISH
speak or write, especially at great length, without saying anything important or useful.

USS Indefatigable
USS Lydia Sutherland
USS Pizza*

*I don't know about you, but pizza has saved countless lives if the so-called cook in your family can't actually cook worth a damn.:barf2:

Oh fine, then. Call it the USS French Toast.

Edit: Mods, please merge this thread I just created with this one. I'm sorry, I didn't know that thread was there when I created this one. :alienblush:

I can think of some:

- A Klingon starship, IKS Rachel Garrett

- Earth cargo ship from ENT's time frame: ECS Mychal Judge. Named after the FDNY chaplain.

Parliament-class starships from LD:

- USS Lightfoot. Named after my favorite singer.

- USS Humboldt. Named in honor of the victims of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash.

- USS Calgary. All crew personnel dress in cowboy gear (but still in Starfleet division colors). Linky ;)

Edit: USS Liam Shaw. :mallory:

Stop naming things after people completely. Use non-people names. That way you never have to rename something because the person you named it after has some skeletons in the closet that become known decades later.

Barring that, I vote for Riker's choice, USS Lollipop.

My ships on Star Trek Online have included:
  • USS Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (ShiKahr class)
  • USS Bernie Sanders NCC-93750 (Miranda class)
  • USS Salvadore Allende NCC-92732 (Constitution class refit)
  • USS Evo Morales NCC-91801 (Akira class)
  • USS Patrice Lumumba NCC-93408 (Galaxy class)
  • USS Nelson Mandela NCC-79405 (Sovereign class)
  • USS Angela Davis NCC-94159 (Defiant class)
  • USS Chris Hedges (Intrepid class)
When I get back to playing it regularly, I plan to have ships named:
  • USS Lula da Silva
  • USS Dag Hammarskjöld
  • USS Michael Harrington
  • USS Cesar Chavez
  • USS Dolores Huerta
  • USS Malcolm X
  • USS Martin Luther King Jr.
  • USS John Brown
  • USS Karl Marx
  • USS Frederick Engels
  • USS Bill Haywood
  • USS James Baldwin
  • USS Alice Paul
  • USS Harvey Milk
  • USS Alexander Dubček

Some athletic names:

USS Dravecky (named for my favorite baseball player, Dave Dravecky)

And some of Dave's teammates:

USS Garrelts
USS Hammaker
USS Brantley

Also, named for someone who’s from my home city, baseball's first female manager... USS Balkovec

On the basis of this video I just stumbled across, I nominate the USS Andrea Bocelli:

How can you not name a starship after an opera singer who sings such a beautiful lullaby to Elmo? :adore:
