Whither Star Trek: The Experience?

Count me in among the supporters. I only got to visit once (and even then on a short time frame) but I enjoyed it. It would be a shame to see it simply disappear.

Honestly, I can see why some people might love it, but, frankly, it's thin: a few motion rides, photo ops, a short museum, Quarks, and some gift shops. The design is also awkward...I know people who walked away because they got the impression you had to pay to see any of it, not realizing you could walk into the Promenade without going through a ticket line.

yes, sad to say, but the experiance is closing. i work at the LV hilton, and have found out through my boss that it will be closing in september. they probibly decided to wait untill after the 08 trek convention. the current owner of the hilton (resorts international) has slowly got rid of most of thier current tennents on property, and probibly feel more money could be generated by expandidng the casino into the star trek
space. (our current owners are a bunch of feringe's, all about
"maxamizing shareholder value") the only hope you have of it staying open, is if the hotel were sold to a new owner who
wanted to keep it around.
when star trek the experiance was origonally built, the hilton corporation paid for the majority of the construction costs. 5 years later, thier whole attitude changed (when the borg
incounter was added, they were not willing to spend $1.00
to help finance it) thier origonal lease was re-newed, but that renewal was over in janurary 08. the problem with the experiance is that its expensive to go to, and its allways the same.
if they came up with a new ride every year, or a different story line, it would be a reason to go back over and over. it could have been better
thought out. what they should do is bring the star trek tour here, and give everyone a reason to go one more time. if they brought it here, in conjunction with the 2008 convention, im shure the attendedce would be excelent. sorry for the news, adrian

If it is indeed going, I'll be sad to see it go, and so will my wife. We had a great time there for our 1st anniversary, and I will never forget it. Somehow I just don't think an e-mail is really going to help though.

It's unfortunate if it is closing, I have been there twice, and enjoyed it a lot. I thought Borg Invasion would do the trick, no? Anyhow, IIRC Borg Invasion was also used for another theme park in Germany somewhere?

The biggest difficulty IMO is that the ride's location--off the Strip. If it were moved into, say the MGM Grand or something that would help it a lot, but of course they'd need the space.

Also, could it be that the TNG era is 'over' and so the relevance is not the same?

I wish that if they stopped the ride forever, the ride films could be released on DVD, I'd buy that!

Damn, I've only been there once and it was one of the worst vacations I've ever been on (STTE was the only bright spot) and I was really hoping to get back sometime.

That truly would be a shame. I've been there at least a dozen times and plan to take my wife and kids there again this summer to renew our vows on the Bridge. I figured that if the next movie does well, they would add a new ride based on it. While I'd hate to see them remove either of the two existing ones, I'll bet that one based on TOS/STXI will have much more general appeal than the Voayager themed ride. Here's to hoping...

I've only been once, but I had a great time. My favorite part of the whole experience was interacting with all of the in-character aliens--I couldn't stop grinning like an idiot while chatting with a very attractive Klingon lady!

And the Warp Core Breach...WOW what a drink!

Here's to ye lads...

Any chance of at least keeping the bar and restaurant open? At least they wouldn't have to gut the entire wing, and they'll surely need to put *something* back there besides slot machines.

Vegas needs more slots like it needs more porn slappers.

Anything is possible and I would especially like that idea. The unfortunate thing is that, even if they did keep the restaurant, it would mean the end of the character interaction. Even now, because they don't bring in any tangible revenue, the aliens have to defend their presense. They rated high in a recent survey as to what kept people coming back/what they found most enjoyable so that helped.

I will say, if you've never been, that going while the big Creation con is in town is a great way to really experience the ...er...Experience.

I love Vegas and I go there more than anyone probably should. The Experience was always a highlight for me and I have a lot of memories from there. The Halloween Alien bash in 04 was a blast, the Enterprise Finale party was touching and after I ran the Vegas 1/2 marathon, I made my way to Quark's for a warp core breach and after that I didn't care about the aches and pains, funny how that happened :).

I really hope it's just the usual rumor that gets floated around every so often, but this one feels different. I would think they would at least wait till the new movie comes out and see the reaction to that and them make a decision. It is Vegas and they do like to tear down things and rebuild things. If nothing else, I hope it stays open past Nov. I'm leaving the Army then and I'm planning a Vegas bash to celebrate it and would love to rent out the Captian's lounge for a dinner for my friends/family, that would be cool.

If it does close after the convention then I look back on my memories there and enjoy my nice run of visiting that place.

Well I am convinced enought that the end is nigh, that I want to get there before it closes. I will be taking my family, two grown daughters, properly raised in Trek, and my wife.

Any recommendations about how long a stay to really enjoy it. Not interested in much else at Vegas, other than a half a day to get the flavor of the the place and lose $50 at blackjack.

If they had kept the next Trek movie on the original schedule it would have been closer to the timeframe of the Experience's final dates...

As far as how much time to spend there, it depends. You could easily spend 4-5 hours between shopping, eating and the rides (waiting and doing them) while looking at the history of the future museum. I would advise you soak in as much as you can seeing as how it could be the first and last time you're there. I do suggest trying the warp core breach. If you take the monorail they have coupon books with a coupon for a free mini-warp core with the order of an entree. At least they had them back in Sept when I was last there. It's a hell of deal considering they cost $13 or so. Take plenty of pictures and just enjoy the place, I always do.

You can do it all in an afternoon or evening but I'd be willing to bet money that you'll want to go back to Quark's a number of times. A friend who is a Trekker brought her sister who is not. The next night they were going to hit the strip but after about an hour or so, the non-Trekker sister wanted to go back to Quark's.

The rides are fun and the museum is interesting, but Quark's is the heart and soul of the place. That is, after all, where you get to have extended conversations with the alien ambassadors.

I recommend the Flaming Ribs of Targ, the Warbird, and the Chicken Khan sandwich. And the Warp Core Breach for the drinkers in the crowd.

Quarks "is" the place. I met up with a few TrekBBSers the one time I was out west and we had a great time. The recreation was perfect.

I wish it was in Orlando. I'd be there a helluva lot more. ;)
