Whither Sam Kirk?

I thought it was the stepfather's.
In the movie, Stepdad says over the phone that it's his, so that's the official version.

In the original script and in a scene which was filmed but omitted from the finished movie, Sam (George Jr.) tells Young Jim Kirk that it had been their father's car and that the reason Jim was washing the car was because Uncle Frank (replaced in the movie by Stepdad) was about to sell it. (The Kirk/Corvette joyride was to have followed this scene.)

I have to go back and watch, but where in the actual movie does it say the voice on the Nokia is UNCLE FRANK? or anyone for that matter. He just says he wants the car back in the same condition, that his (Jim's) mother is offworld. And for that matter, would UNCLE FRANK be his mother's brother, father's brother, mother's "boyfriend"? Which is it?
(emphasis mine)

It doesn't say that in the movie; it did say that in the script and in the Iowa scene which was filmed but not used.

Most of the original Uncle Frank part from the script was scrapped. What remained was the one line spoken over the telephone (the "voice on the Nokia") and that line was re-recorded by different actor for the movie (the Stepdad character was identified only in the credits, never on the screen.)

^I believe that it is highly unlikely that any future Abramsverse film will mention George Samuel Kirk Jr. Pike doesn't mention Sam in the Iowa bar scene. Probably won't hear about Spock's half-brother Sybok either.
Pike had no need to mention Sam in the bar scene. Sam had already gone off and done something with his life, while Jim was still moping around Iowa. The conversation was solely about using George Kirk's heroics to motivate Jim to stop squandering his potential.

In addition, Mentioning him would have added nothing to the moment or the story, and may have diluted the scene's emotional and directional impact.

Too much detail means too much information to track, adding to the potential that the audiences would be lost.

If George is not a part of Kirk's story from an emotional or plot point of view, then he is superfluous to the scene, and thus should not be mentioned.

Sam Kirk is dead in TOS Prime.

The scene works better in the prose novelization.

Sam got a great send off in "Enterprise the First Adventure".

Besides: Spock's Father Sarek is alive. Kirk's Mother Winona is alive. They both lost a parent.

and...

Maybe Sarek, and Winona get married. :techman:
