WHITE STAR

A fusion of Minbari and Vorlon technology and operated by the Rangers, the White Star and her sisters were the backbone of the Interstellar Alliance forces. Armed with neutron and fusion cannons and their own small fighter complements, the White Stars were created to fight in the Shadow War and used to keep interstellar peace afterward. Though small, they were capable of creating their own hyperspace jump points, rather than relying on fixed points or those provided by larger ships.

BABYLON 5

...was the epic, “novel-for-television” science fiction series created and written by J. Michael Straczynski. Focusing on the title space station, Babylon 5 was an intricately plotted drama depicting political, religious and military intrigue in a galaxy inhabited by a spacefaring humanity and several other races.

I've always thought the White Star is a gorgeous ship, very graceful. As I recall the reveal of an entire White Star Fleet was a pretty grand moment, and they were always used in some really compelling moments of B5. Definitely one of my favorites from the 90s.

(The Defiant could still kick her ass though outside of a beauty contest. ;))

I like the way the Whitestars move (reminded me of Automan's car, the way it could turn corners instantly), but I didn't much care for their looks.

How big is this ship? While it always seem like it is a small ship, it is rather large.

Funny that it only maneuvered that way when it suited the coolness factor.

Most of the time it maneuvered like an agile aircraft, say a Sukhoi or what not.

I used to think it was the mostawesomethingever, but it hasn't aged well. It's very 90s.

And nowadays I find the engine noise to be fingernails on a chalkboard, especially under a good sound system.

That's about the length of USS Excelsior, isn't it? Well over 100 meters longer than a modern super carrier.

Don't think too hard about it. Common practice in sci-fi since Matt Jeffries gave us Enterprise has been "Make it bigger than a carrier." And B5 ships have to be scaled up so they'll be visible on screen with a five-mile-long space station.

No "plucked" joke but how about "two frogs boinking"?
I always liked the WhiteStars, sleek and deadly.

She was the inspiration for one of my rare ventures into 3D modeling, when I needed an evil-looking alien ship for my USS Kirov to meet in deep space.
