White Orbs floating around Starfleet Academy

Cameras. Sensors. Scanners. Trek's version of SGU's Kinos.

Btw, SFA and STXI's San Fransisco looks freaking amazing!

Lol, i do like the lens-flare generators and Rover :) Big Prisoner fan here. Seems like a detail for no real reason? I could see if they somehow played into Kirk's Kobayashi Maru trick with Gaila or something... but really, no reason?

No reason except to add to the realism of a 23rd century San Fransisco and space academy. Which is reason enough, imo.

I see what you're saying, but in a movie that uses a brewery for engineering to make the Trek Tech more 'real' and make the Enterprise feel like a real machine, it's odd to have fancy orb machines floating around that we can't say 'hey, those must be ______' because we either recognize them from another part of the movie, or recognize what they are doing/purpose they serve.

See what I'm saying?

The arcologies or mega-siloes on the Iowan horizon were left equally unexplained. There seemed to be something of a balance between idle milieu-painting and Dostoyevskian introduction of important plot gimmicks...

One wonders how many things there were in the movie that we were intended to understand without explaining, and didn't. Say, did Kirk's wooing of Gaila play a role in his ability to hack into Kobayashi Maru? Was Starfleet lured into Laurentius by Nero's feint attack against the Klingons? What lay behind Pike's close relationship to the Kelvin - pure academical interest, or personal interest in George or perhaps Winona Kirk? All sorts of possibilities there.

Like when Kirk was Kirking Gaila. They need to keep a close eye on stuff like that.

Especially Admiral Archer, now he doesn't have his beagle to keep him busy anymore.
