Indications are that Origins: Wolverine is also going to be ignored as far as the in-development Deadpool movie is concerned, so it would make total sense to just shift that film (Origins: Wolverine) into an apocryphal category along with The Last Stand and use the first two films, FC and its sequels, a Singer-written and directed follow-up to X2, and possibly the Deadpool and Woverine film(s) as the film continuity of the X franchise.

You would have to release a "special edition" cut of the first film, however, to acknowledge the retcons that FC introduces regarding the timeline of Xavier and Erik's first meeting and certain aspects of their relationship.

X-Men: The Adventures of Longshot.

Ya know? I think it would be cool if they started releasing shorts for the X-Men universe, similar to Mortal Kombat Legacy. Like 30 minute episodes. That would be a good amount to tell some sort of narrative for smaller stories.

I'd like to see First Class 2 then X4, then end that particular cast and such. I always felt like Scott wasn't really dead in X3 anyway.

I remember readin' on a few geek websites that Marvel was goin' to start doin' shorts for the more minor characters that couldn't carry their own film, and attach 'em to the big movies, kind of like how Pixar movies always have an animated short before 'em.

But Marvel responded sayin' that was just a rumor.

Ah, well...

The PTB also have some leeway to ignore much of TLS if they ever go back to the main franchise by having Singer essentially pick up the story from where he left off in X2 and tell the Dark Phoenix story - or a variation thereof - in the manner he was originally intending to.

I think it was the PTB who screwed with the story in X3 and caused the problem in the first place. Plus, while plotwise it was the weakest in the franchise, it was still quite profitable.

If they can't reclaim the tone of the first movie I don't think any sequel will be as intriguing and X2, while its plot and action scenes hung together more effectively, was very different in tone to X1. I knew that as soon as I heard the opening music. The telepathy effect in FC seemed horribly shoddy compared to the first X-trilogy too.

Still, Madeline Pryor's story was part of the classic Claremont history. Even if they don't want to resurrect Jean in her own body, a clone story could still give her a resurrection of sorts and Singer could easily use the Goblyn Queen to give us a variation of the Dark Phoenix theme.

The PTB did the best they could with The Last Stand given Singer's departure, and while the film isn't as good as X2 and does have issues, it is a fairly serviceable sequel to the first two films.

It is, however, inconsistent with what FC has done, and would therefore be easy to ignore should Bryan Singer choose to do so if he were to direct and/or write a future installment or installments in the main series.

I want apocalypse.
I would like to see a sequel to First class
A redo of X3
And no more Wolverine stories...

If they use the leaked script draft (which it doesn't look like they're going to) the Deadpool movie will own. They are in the process right now of locking up a director.

XMFC was good, and I am most interested in seeing more of that creative team and cast.

The Wolverine lost its director, which was what made it look more attractive than the last, shitty Wolverine movie.

X4 should have happened closer to X3.

Dreadpool. I still harbor the desire to find and strangle Rob Liefeld.

I voted The Wolv a few days ago, but now that I've seen FC, my vote's changed...

Can I cheat and say that I want to see an X-Men 3 that properly addresses the Phoenix saga and retcons out The Last Stand?
I've often thought this myself, and would still absolutely love to see it. The only thing is, what would the cast be? There's no X3 without Stewart or Jackman, imho. It would be great to have Marsden and Jannsen back, but those could be recast without too much trouble. Berry should be recast, but the way her career is going she might well come back for cheap.

So basically everyone would look a decade too old, but it could still be awesome. In short:

X3 (S)
Pro: Finish the original trilogy right.
Con: Would probably preclude any more FC movies.

First Class 2
Pro: FC was awesome.
Con: While FC fits very well with X1-2, it's hard to imagine that subsequent movies would. How long can the X-Men stay hidden from the world, and how long can Mags be the main antagonist yet still be on relatively speaking terms with Chuck at the start of X1? No, an FC 2 would most likely make a hard diversion, albeit one nearly all of us, I think, would happily accept.

The Wolverine / Deadpool
Pro: Potentially awesome standalones.
Con: Apart from keeping Jackman busy, none.

X4
Pro: Can be done fairly cheaply, with no need for Stewart (though he could of course return). In the right hands, there's no reason why a compelling story couldn't be told.
Con: Would probably either preclude an FC 2 or force it to more or less adhere to continuity. Also, would virtually force future generations to actually keep X3 around.

Total reboot nu-X
Pro: could give us the X-team of the '90s animated show: flying Rogue, Gambit, badass Cyke, and could, especially in the wake of the cosmic Marvel Studios filmverse, bring in the interplanetary stuff: Sentinels, Apocalypse, aliens, etc. The technology and culture wasn't ready for this back at the time of X1's release, but could be now.
Con: kiss your Singerverse and all its potential sequels (FC2, X3 (S)/X4) goodbye. Look for Fox to do this only when the current run is dead, dead, dead, I supect.

All rise...

Having reviewed the evidence, I give my blessing to FC 2, Wolv, and Deadpool, with my top choice being FC 2. Bring it! :bolian:

I am definitely looking forward to X-Men: Second Class most. Especially after the last movie. I want to see more of that particular world and universe.

Isn't "Second Class" kind of like "Second Rate"? If they name the next film that way it seems they lose the double entendre.
