Which Trek Visual/Special Effect Stands Out?

Yeah, but isn't that the genesis planet? So, things are, y'know, different and stuff, so the sun...y'know... is where Spock is and... um... not the same as...and stuff.

So there !! :shifty:

:)

You're right . . . except at the part where you were completely wrong! That shots from TMP, not TWOK.

Looks a bit like the final scene in Khan, but I guess theres no battle damage. They might have started a signature parting shot like the Superman films.

This is TMP almost immediately after they pull out of Drydock. Its beautiful, but they are orbiting (and accelerating) away from the sun, and it rises behind them. Go figure.

I've also been really partial to this shot.

The only way the sun could rise is if the Enterprise were flying towards it... which it isn't...

Sorry, bad astronomy. But a very beautiful effect!

Unless the Enterprise is not in orbit of Earth, but is accelerating away at a speed higher than escape velocity. From that perspective, the Sun would be at almost stationary relative coordinates as Earth is rapidly shrinking, thus revealing the sun from behind the earth.

Okay, but why is the ship being lit from the side and not from the rear? ;)

Well, that would explain the similar Wrath of Khan shot (Genesis planet near the end... they reuse it, you can't miss it) but i believe this is before they give the order to go to impulse and leave the area. "Departure angle on viewer" with the earth receding follows this view.

Maybe the sunlight is reflecting off the moon on to the ship... that happens, I SEEN IT !!

You know, you can ruin such a beautiful shot by talking way too much about it. ;)

I totally agree, but this is Trekbbs, where apparently the goal is to analyze and break down our favorite things until they are nitpicked apart and stripped of all entertainment value... didn't you get the memo? ;)

TMP: Enterprise fly around, wormhole, vger disappears and enterprise is over earth, and the last warp out

TWOK: Surprise attack, Enterprise leave Regulus orbit, approaching the mutara nebula, and the battle within.

TSFS: Stealing the Enterprise, and the enterprise self destructs

TVH: Enterprise leaves space dock

TFF: The shuttle crash

TUC: "Enterprise attacks kronos 1", Enterprise and Excelsior in Kitomer orbit

Did anyone notice the NAR registry on the drydock in Search4's photo? That's the first time I've noticed it. Good to see NAR used on another Federation property besides the SS Vico.

Indeed.
That's why we all should remember that those are works of art and not part of a science project.

but without the science (albeit fictional), what would we quibble endlessly about???

another shot from IV i always loved was the short reveal over the top of Excelsior of the new -A

Gosh, that's so obscure that even i had to look it up.

Here's a close up.

Another gorgeous detail!

But I thought NAR stood for National Association of Rocketry? (the only other ones I know of are National Alert Registry [child predator type stuff] and Nurse Aid Registry.)
