Which Trek Visual/Special Effect Stands Out?

Everything mentioned already... i'm a big TMP fan of course, especially of the 7 minute model orgy. Hey, I own the drydock for gosh sakes.

You own THE drydock?

Since it hasn't been mentioned, I'm always impressed by the opening shot of First Contact.

Oh, And Spock's Rocket boots;)

Yes, i was the sucker... err lucky purchaser from the auction in 2006. Check my avatar. More information at http://www.ncc1701.us/18.html.

Where did you get the 6' Enterprise? The biggest commercially available model (the fabulously expensive kit from DeBoer Hulls) is not even 4 feet long.

Okay, i became a collector, mostly of models, mind you, at the Christie's auction. I bought the drydock there... and some others... most of it are on my site at www.ncc1701.us

The drydock needed massive renovation. That's discussed on the site. But yes, its back and there is a 6 foot E in it...

You are right about the "E". So the story - the Drydock looked sad without an "E" inside. Lets face it, it needs a ship under repair! I had some CAD modeling done with the DeBoer ship (which is beautiful by the way) but it just didn't fill the space adequately.

Over time, found a larger "E" on ebay... a Planet Hollywood "E", which is actually a copy of the proposed Phase II ship (you can see them in a number of locations, notably NY and London). I had a speciality model ship convert it to a TMP "E", and that's what is inside. So custom, large, and interesting to view.

Here's a quick shot.

Finally, to add fuel to the fire, i also own the partial Enterprise model that was used in the Wrath of Khan shot. So thank you to those who think its a great effects sequence!

This model was, sadly FIXED UP for Undiscovered Country, where it was used to fire the hero shot at Chang's ship. I had this relit but couldn't bear to re-damage it back to Wrath of Khan standard.

(the other side is damaged, but that was only briefly seen in ST III).

Enjoy.

I love the Enterprise arriving at/entering Spacedock at the start of TSFS. Especially when we see it from the point of view of Starfleet personal through the window.

Shazam! That's MY pick!:scream:
Also the flyover Enterprise in TMP.:techman:

i was always curious about a couple pictures of the drydock at the time of the Christies auction...

when you recieved it, was this "antique radio" still inside? and what the heck was it there for???

edit: oops, wrong pic link. fixed

btw, i love that you restored it to its original glory! great work

Yes that is a radio and yes it was part of the model. It still works or kind of works.

I believed they used it to listen to music during shooting!

TMP - Enterprise in space dock...turning on the running lights.

TWOK - Genesis cave interior (mat paintings)

TSFS - Excelsor breaking down in space (love the sound effects)

TVH - Whale puppets

another favorite of mine is in ST-IV, the garbage can getting crushed during the invisible BOP landing

As a fan, I just have to say to Search4, thanks for taking care of those models, and returning them to their former glory. It's nice that someone cares.

I love "Stealing the Enterprise" from Star Trek III and I'm also a big fan of the crash landing of the Enterprise-D saucer from Generations.

I've also been really partial to this shot.

That indeed is a beautiful shot.

However, as a bit of an astronomer, i believe its scientifically impossible. The Enterprise is in orbit, moving away from the sun (lets assume the sun is relative east and the E is flying west). Low orbit would be about 5 miles per second and an orbital period of under 2 hours. So how, exactly, did the sun rise behind the Enterprise? With a two hour orbit, the only way the sun could rise is if the Enterprise were flying towards it... which it isn't...

Sorry, bad astronomy. But a very beautiful effect!

Yeah, but isn't that the genesis planet? So, things are, y'know, different and stuff, so the sun...y'know... is where Spock is and... um... not the same as...and stuff.

So there !! :shifty:

:)

You're right . . . except at the part where you were completely wrong! That shots from TMP, not TWOK.
