Which Trek feature film would work asA cult-following likeRocky Horror

Re: Which Trek feature film would work asA cult-following likeRocky Ho

I say Star Trek IV.

"Computer? Hello computer?"
Aud: [HELLO!]

Nun: "Maybe he's talking to that man..."
7thHeavenMom: "What the hell!?"
Aud: [Watch your mouth!]

*Chekov running*
"HIT THE DECK!"
Aud: [*hits back of their chairs*]

haha, if forced -- I could imagine all kinds of stuff. Concessions could sell beer and pizza... I could go on all night.

Re: Which Trek feature film would work asA cult-following likeRocky Ho

Let's not say which film is 'the best' but which Trek film (theoretically) would work the best for audience participation similar to the cult following of the Rocky Horror Picture Show?

My ST club and I were actually asked to do this, by the Sydney CBD cinema which hosted the regular "Rocky Horror Picture Show" Audience Participation nights.

As I have related here before, we'd once sort of started something impromptu on a preview night for ST III. I'd been informed that the bridge crew clinked glasses in a toast "to absent friends" in Kirk's apartment, so I took a few empty wine glasses to the screening, clicking them with a friend when the scene came up. Due to the humorous reactions, we took extra glasses to the next free preview and did it again. For opening night, we took a whole carton of glassware - and surreptitiously supplied our whole row with glasses. We got a huge round of applause!

When asked to design something even more elaborate, the cinema wanted it to be either ST:TMP or ST IV and we had a few brainstorming sessions, but couldn't come up with enough funnies to keep momentum going. So it never happened.

A few months later, they asked again for us to do something, this time for the 60s "Batman" movie. We ended up going with about ten people in costume, taking our bows in front of the screen during the opening credits, re-enacting the rubber shark scene with Robin (me, below) racing back and forth with a large, cardboard fin on a stick (it was hilarious!) and inflating and passing around black balloons throughout the audience in the "Some days you can't get rid of a bomb!" scene. To our delight, everyone burst their balloons on cue, when the bomb went off onscreen.

Ah, the "Rocky Horror Picture Show". I used to run midnite shows of it back in the early 90's along with "Heavy Metal" and "The Doors".
I vote for "Star Trek IV" too. Ran midnite shows of it when it first came out. My theatre was down the street from a string of bars. Which made for some interesting customers.
How about "Star Trek V"?
The Klingons may say that "Revenge is a dish best served cold." but "Star Trek V" is a dish best served bombed.

O M F G ! I LOVE this idea!!!! I think ST5 would be great since it is so silly to start with!

TWOK. Not a knock on quality - it's just hard to do better for audience participation fodder than Montalban and one-day-to-be Fat Actress Kirstie Alley.

Re: Which Trek feature film would work asA cult-following likeRocky Ho

It has to be a movie that's pre-'90s or it looses the charm we're going for. And it has to be a movie that doesn't take itself seriously or is so bad it can't be taken seriously at all. The audience either laughs with it or laughs at it, but can still have a good time watching the movie with others.

TMP is too boring, TWOK is too serious, TSFS is too middle-of-the-road and isn't stand-alone. That leaves TVH and TFF.

TVH has the appeal where you don't even have to be a Trekkie. TFF doesn't. With TVH you can go for sci-fi, retro-'80s, and comedy at the same time.

What props would they need to bring for TVH? For Rocky you had toast, playing cards, rice, squirt guns(water only). We always had a problem with people bring squirt guns loaded with things other than water (i.e. mustard, ketchup, mayonnaise, and salad dressing; sometimes beer).

What a terrible waste of beer...

I'd probably go with WoK for that one. It's got the most potential for audience participation, I think.

I kinda think Insurrection would work really well for a MST treatment. Might actually make the movie a great deal more entertaining and lovable.

There's a fairly good fan-created MST of ST V. When I ordered it several years ago on VHS, I assumed it was an official MST, but it was a quite accurate fan film, right down to silhouettes of the "audience".

One of the chants they set up is "Rocks, rocks, rocks!", which recurs several times.

Yep. Especially since we'd confiscate all of that stuff. At least the unopened beer would make working until 3:00 AM bearable.
I bet you'd coulkd use the squirtguns for when Sulu accidentally turns on the wipers of the helicopter.

STV. It's silly enough in the first place, that I think it would be great for a 'cult' audience participation film.
