Which Star Trek Movie Do You Think Was The Best?

I love all but one (Nemesis) of the existing Trek films. However, considering that The Wrath of Khan is my second favorite film of ALL-TIME.... Yeah, that one wins out! :luvlove:

Interesting, I wouldn't have predicted STXI to be on par with TUC but behind TMP in terms of popularity.

The 3 best are TWOK, First Contact and Star Trek. I voted for Star Trek since I think it's the best of those 3.

Strangely enough, while I never really saw much of TOS or cared to, I liked TMP by far the best.

I much preferred TNG in TV format. I'm not a big fan of movies.

TWOK is my favorite. I love phasers, and the ones in this film were so sleek and deadly (I own a toy/replica that I can't put down haha :)
Watched both First Contact and Nemesis recently. I was surprised by Nem...better than I thought it would be.
First Contact was enjoyable as well, but felt more like a 2 part Voyager episode (if that makes sense)

BTW, that was my first post :)
Glad to have found this forum.

Interesting that TMP is number 2. I would have expected TUC (VI)

My Top favourite Star Trek: The Final Frontier

When I saw this movie for the first time, I thought that the plot was hokey, the special effects were ugly, and that the movie had a somewhat abrupt ending. While having watched this again a few days ago, I have to say this is a lot more enjoyable than I remembered. The film does contain a few scenes that are visually imaginative, such as the assault on Paradise City, Spock's jet boots, or the sequence around McCoy's inner pain.

So it is worthing my vote.

I voted for TWOK, but I also really like TSFS and TVH, particularly as a trio. I know that TSFS is supposed to be one of the bad, odd numbered movies, but I love it and think it's great. I also like Robin Curtis' Saavik more than Kirstie Alley's.

I voted TWOK on this occasion, but honestly, there's noting in it between TMP and TWOK for me. Indeed, on another day I may well have voted TMP.

Hard Choice between TUC & FC - but had to pick First Contact just because I remember how much I loved seeing TNG on the big screen as a kid (teen), and FC is better than Generations (only slightly though).

I had... no idea the first movie was so well-received around here. Is this a common internet belief or a TrekBBS thing? I've always heard the more mainstream reaction to TMP: it's dull and doesn't end soon enough but it has a few cool moments.

As for me, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country is the best-made film of all eleven. It's sometimes quite predictable, but I don't believe any Trek film is near-perfect despite my enjoyment of most of them, so that's okay by me. It has great acting, a very relevant premise and a resolution that still gets me all these years later. On top of all that, I feel its script is more powerful than any other in the film series, and as a bit of a writer, that's important to me. I wasn't even born until TNG was starting up, but I respect and admire the send-off TOS got with this terrific movie.

From there, my opinions shift with my mood, but most commonly I consider Star Trek to be second-best. It's got a script that rarely falters, some impressive acting from the new cast, intense (though unfair to compare to most of the other films) visual effects sequences and a thick layer of genuine fun, but it's missing the cerebral plot and more well-done villain of the sixth movie.

Star Trek: First Contact is up there too, probably resting at a comfortable third. The TOS 'trilogy' find varied spots after that, though I feel it necessary to point out that I don't consider The Wrath of Khan particularly powerful. Khan is a narcissistic bully on steroids and has a couple of good lines but he's surrounded by unimpressive bit players and comes off more as someone I'd like to punch in the face and be done with than think highly off as a compelling antagonist.

The remaining three TNG movies are usually neatly tucked after that, although depending on my mood one or two might sometimes mingle and take the higher spots of one or two of the TOS trilogy. I'm particularly fond of Generations and Nemesis.

Lastly, TMP remains near the bottom but not without redemptive qualities and TFF is pretty bad.

I've re-watched all the movies except my bottom two since June (post #30, my first in this thread). My very top choice has not changed, but I can now rank the TOS and TNG films all together.

1. Star Trek (2009) - The 23rd century for the 21st century. This poll may be slightly skewed by the fact that it was posted in a forum devoted to movies I-X. That may cut down on the number of votes for XI. Technically, this thread should be in a General Trek forum since it includes both Alternate and Prime Universe films.

2. The Voyage Home
3. The Wrath of Khan
4. The Search for Spock

I guess the "The Genesis Trilogy" still defines Star Trek movies in my mind (at least the prime reality films). TVH and TWOK are fan favorites so I'm "normal" there, but despite how much I have tried to pick it apart, I have a soft spot in my heart for TSFS. Maybe because of McCoy's chance to shine, Kirk's drama regarding the loss of his son, the gut-wrenching loss of the Enterprise, the ressurection of Spock, or all of the above. All three of these movies always bring a tear to my eye.

5. The Undiscovered Country
5. Generations
5. First Contact

I'm a little surprised that so many people rank TUC so highly. For me it is #4 (out of 6) among the TOS films. To me it is a fitting end to the Klingon story-arc began in TSFS and the adventures of the TOS crew as a whole, but it isn't quite as good as the Genesis Trilogy.

I am a minority in that I like Generations as much as TUC and FC. Despite defintely being a TNG movie, it does have Kirk and he is much more entertaining here than in TMP or TFF. The GEN plot (with Klingons villains) is a more TOS-like plot for the TNG, so the film successfully feels like a transition. No matter how much or little I like Kirk's final death, this movie totally works thematically.

My other top TNG movie is fan-fave First Contact, so no surprise there. Maybe in the future I'll be able to rank this 3-way tie.

8. Insurrection

It's really only slightly less favored than the three "#5" films. Even though I like the messages and love the space battle stuff, the 'defend the natives from the transporter probes as they are hearded into the hills' scene and Worf's zit are not that entertaining, and bring this movie down a little notch. There are three movies I like less than this one (much less), but at the same time I am not suprised that this movie isn't anyone's fave film on the poll (so far).

9. Nemesis

I saw it once in the theater, once a couple years ago, and once again last month. 3 strikes you're out. I vow I will never bother watching this film again, and I can't believe that two people ranked this one as their #1 favorite film.

10. The Motion Picture

I saw this motion picture all the way through once in 1984. I've tried to watch it twice more in the 80's and fell asleep both times. I really don't understand the appeal of this film among fans here, so I am definitely an outcast regarding this movie. But since it has been over 20 years since I've seen any part of TMP, I vow I will give it one more shot and I will drink some red bull to make sure I don't pass out from G-rated boredom.

11. The Final Frontier

The (1st &) Final Film that Bill Shatner can ruin by evangelizing his atheism through a lame story featuring Spock's long-lost brother. I've only seen this film once in the theater. But since it has been over 20 years I've decided I'll watch it one more time as well. But this time I'll know to look away when old Uhura is dancing seductively and the aliens all wonder lustfully if she is naked (shudders - Oh the horror... Think Zoe Saldana, for God's sake think Zoe Saldana!). I really can't believe that two people ranked this as their favorite film!

But to each his own.
