I love the first two and a half acts of TSFS. That ending though.

That old journalists' tag about not burring the lead also applies to climaxes.

I love TSFS as well. I think a poll about "favorites" can be deceiving if you try to look at the results in any other context. TSFS is a perfect example. It may be very popular, but not anyone's "favorite." You could probably have a threa that does an index rating where you ask participants to rank the movies 1-6 and then tally points.

Holy crap.

TMP is one vote away from being equal with TWoK?

I think of it as one of the worst of the original six. Then again, I haven't seen The Director's Edition, but still...

Having seen all six of these films in the theaters, I think the big screen experience is important to really enjoying them IMHO.

But we're judging these as films, right?

Not as big screen experiences or personal favourites.

Like, I voted for The Wrath of Khan as I think it's the best, but The Undiscovered Country is definitely my personal favourite.

Right. I am just saying that I am influenced personally by that experience about which one I thought was best and second best.

For me:

1. The Wrath of Khan
2. The Undiscovered Country
3. The Voyage Home
4. The Search for Spock
5. The Motion Picture
6. The Final Frontier

TUC over TWoK for personal favourites. It's really a tossup between the two for best, TWoK just scrapes it really.

Best Overall: The Wrath of Khan
Best Science Fiction/Star Trek Theme: The Motion Picture

Personal Favorite List:
1. The Wrath of Khan
2. The Undiscovered Country
3. The Voyage Home
4. The Search for Spock
5. The Motion Picture
6. The Final Frontier

I voted for The Undiscovered Country, but honestly, it's tied with the Director's Edition of The Motion Picture. The Search for Spock is also amazing. I love TWOK, but to me, it has the same problem that First Contact has. Although a great movie in itself, it's less Star Trek and more generic 80's action flick. A good generic action flick, but still....

In wish the Voyage Home was getting a little more love here. I enjoyed it's attempt at bringing some levity to the original cast movies even though it clashes with earlier and later styles.

Oh, I adore TVH. But I simply do not see it as the best TOS movie.

*sigh*

TWoK is absolutely Trek.

I hate this belief that "real" Star Trek has to have zero action and must be boring. TWoK is just as much Trek, if not more, than TMP.

TWoK puts all its focus on characters, it explores relationships, loss, friendship, aging and death, while TMP explores the human nature, the limits of our knowledge and creation.

TMP being slow and having little action doesn't make it more Trek than TWoK.

Who has this belief? My favorite Trek movie is TMP followed by Into Darkness. I imagine the "Star Trek must have no action" choir is pretty small and obviously doesn't include Gene Roddenberry.
