It is a tie between TOS and TMP era. Futuristic enough to be believable but not too outlandish. I can go forever without seeing holodecks, raising the dead, or uber ships.

You know I gotta go with TOS. I think if you update some of the computer displays and interfaces it still looks like you can walk onto that ship.

(Although thanks to Drex Files I have a sudden appreciation for ENT.)

I'm a big fan of the 24th Century tech, I like how efficient and cool to the touch everything seems, plus its the newest so it must be the best! LCARS looks like such a nice interface to use too, no buttons or levers for me.

Bah!

24th century tech was too "fidgety". Their ships had a nasty habit of breaking down if you looked at them funny, and had to be "drydocked" for repairs all the time.

An old school Connie, on the other hand...now THERE'S a ship built to last...and to be relatively easy to fix in the field.

^^true. If anyone saw the BSG documentary, history has shown that networked, super-advanced ships are more susceptible than good 'ol, time tested simpler ships.

While you do have a point JNG and it was certainly the intent of TNG to suggest that the Federation and Klingons had basically put their problems behind them, I base my assertion on the notion that the average Klingon Warrior subscribes to a merciless 'survival of the strong' mentality, which allows them to take what they want and do what they want, and therefore detests the Federation supporting what they view as 'the weak' or appearing weak in general, and as long as the warrior caste remains in power this won't really change. Just my theory based on what I've seen.

It is however possible that the views of the average Klingon warrior have changed sufficiently to allow them to remain friendly with the Federation despite their somewhat differing viewpoints. The peace of 2293 may have been forced by an economic and humanitarian crisis, but it may have grown into a genuine friendship and gruding mutual respect in the time since. I might argue, however, that this could be seen as a fundamental change in what it is to be Klingon.

The 24th century Klingons were STILL a feudal Empire, complete with status-based discrimination. Their philosophy remains at fundamental loggerheads with the democratic meritocracy of the Federation.

Voted TOS. No holodecks, fancy touch-displays, etc. And the later era shows simply didn't deliver that touch of wonder found on the original Enterprise. There was one other aspect that I always found appealing, the Enterprise was a ship I understood how to pilot. Read the FJ tech manual, and if you have hands-on know-how to pilot/navigate a real aircraft, Enterprise is an easy next leap forward.

Jeez. I am about to show my age here, but that quote reminds me of the old G.I. Joe episode where Cobra had found a way to nullify all technology so the Joe's had to use the USS Constitution (the only wind powered vessel still in active duty status in the US Navy) to stop the bad guys.

Good times.

Remembering GI Joe is "showing your age"?

Sheesh. :p

^^ Well I ain't ancient, but how many people between 20 and 30 can remember plots to a cartoon series from the 1980's? Granted we do have some oldtimers on here, so I am not alone in my appreciation for a TV show that must have fired off millions of rounds and never once injured or killed anyone (not to mention the planes and helicopters that exploded and the pilots magically survived thanks to quick ejection techniquess and parachutes). :p

Okay, I give. There was a pre-1980's show? I remember a Mr. T show, the Kroft Super Star Hour (the former was 1980's, but the latter wasn't I don't think), and the old Spiderman cartoons, etc., but I don't remember a pre-1980's G.I. Joe. This was with the original single Joe and not the team, correct?

Jeez, I remember those things. I even had the flocked hair variant.

I guess we need to get back on topic after this brief diversion down memory lane.
