Which era of "Star Trek" is your favorite?

If mentioning an era not brought up in the first post here, my favourite Star Trek era is 1987-1994 which means 2364-2370.
That's right, I love STNG. ;)

How would you rate the various eras of "Star Trek"?

TOS/TAS/TOS-movies. TOS is the only legitimate cultural phenomenon among the ST productions, and in addition to its well-covered ground-breaking, genre-defining elements, celebrated episodes and genuinely iconic characters, it spawned endless elements which would become random references, even to those who may not know the exact origin of said references. There's a reason why its still the face of the franchise--and the other ST productions are not. John & Jane Q. Public do not think of Picard, Sisko, Janeway, Archer, Burnham, et al. when someone says, "Star Trek". Again, there's many reasons for that, and they are not too pleasant.

Berman-era Trek is my least favorite era.

So much of it was lifeless, New-Agey drek in Star Trek trappings. Its is no wonder the Berman series--aside from the rush to produce TNG movies (which are forgettable at best), there;s never been any great call to produce films based on DS9/VOY (yikes), or ENT.

1. Berman Trek: Most consistent and stable Trek. TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT and The TNG movies are all pretty solid and have some of the best moments in Trek. TNG and DS9 in particular are two of the best science fiction series of all time

2. Roddenberry Trek: The blueprint to what Trek is all about. It misses the top spot because of season 3 of TOS, seasons 1 & 2 of TNG and The Motion Picture.

3. Bennett Trek: All the TOS movies have something special about them. Yes even TMP & TFF I get something out of.

4. Kurtzman Trek: Hit and miss. I love Strange New Worlds, Picard and Lower Decks. Disco is a mixed bag for me and I haven't had the urge to check out Prodigy. If and when I do, it might go up on my ranking list.

5. Abrams Trek: It's a lot of flash and action but not much science fiction or substance.

Hm. Roddenberry my fave, no contest.

Based on watching behavior, Berman era must be #2. Did a big rewatch of DS9 years ago, now on VOY which I liked a lot during first run, as also DS9. A watch through of ENT (I left it during original run zzzzz) showed it was better toward the end and T’Pol really grew as a person. But its first half is the pits, and TNG leaves me cold.

3. Bennett for auld lang syne, the movies were huge at the time, pre-TNG, and I watched em on vhs a bunch.

4. Kurtzman, a mixed bag; like and love SNW and PRO. DSC and PIC are so bad and horrible respectively, they drag Alex to #3.

1701. JJ hyperkinetic, derivative-plot, smash mouth spectacle, set piece Trek. Not a fan, as you can tell.

Everyone, like what you like though.

Tough call tbh Berman Trek including DS9 is a big misnomer as he was not really involved with it, Id be more inclined to include a separate category of 'Moore' to inlcude the latter seasons of TNG and DS9 as Ronald D Moore had a huge influence on the tone, writing etc of both shows. 'Berman Trek' is really VOY, ENT and the TNG films which he had a lot more influence over. Here's my list with my new category.

1. Moore Trek
2. Gene Trek
3. Bennet Trek
4. Berman Trek
5. Abrams Trek.
I'd go with Ira Steven Behr rather than Ronald Moore.

1. Berman Trek -- only on #1 because of DS9, imo easily the best Trek show. Pains me a little to call this "Berman era" because that's the show of his era he was least involved in, and that's probably one of the main reasons why it's so good (TNG S7 was a snorefest, Voyager was stagnant as hell, ENT was weak until it suddenly took off in S4 and overshadowed any previous season of ENT and VOY--right after Berman was put on the back seat, go figure). Theoretically, if we separated this into Berman era and Ira Steven Behr era, the latter would be an easy #1 and the former would move down 2 or 3 spots. But as it is, this era contains the most greatness imo despite a lot of rough patches.

2. Roddenberry Trek

3. Bennett Trek

4. Kurtzman Trek -- some bright spots, most notably a leap in terms of representation. Dragged down by a myriad of issues though, and to me personally DIS and PIC aren't good TV shows, especially the trainwreck that was PIC S2, easily the worst season of any Star Trek ever. LD, SNW and PRO are a step up, but so far never came close to the greatness that there is so much of in #1-3. Even VOY which I'm not a fan of had some pretty damn great episodes, something I just never see in the current era.

5. Abrams Trek -- just sucks. Also gave us the most hideous starship bridge in the history of the franchise.

The mid-to-late 24th century Trek - TNG, DS9 and VOY. Even to this day, I prefer this period in Trek era more than any other.

Behr should absolutely get top billing. He was the showrunner. Moore was a staff writer, on the same level as the likes of Robert Hewitt Wolfe and Rene Echevaria at that.

Wolfe went from Story Editor to Executive Story Editor to Co-Producer to Producer. Echevarria went from Producer to Co-Supervising Producer to Supervising Producer.

Moore started on DS9 as a Supervising Producer and became a Co-Executive Producer in mid-season 5 and remained in that spot. He was hardly just a 'staff writer'.

Moore is basically responsible for the later seasons of DS9?

Based on what I watch when I have a Trek itch

Gene Roddenberry (1966-1979)
-Alex Kurtzman (2017-Now)
-Harve Bennett (1982-1989)
-Rick Berman (1992-2005)
-JJ Abrams (2009-2016)
Gene Roddenberry (1987-1991)

I kinda came up with a similar idea myself… only I would split Gene Trek between early (TOS and TAS) and late (TMP and TNG seasons 1-2), and I would also add Coto Trek (kinda cheating, but they had a lot of autonomy and it was quite different).
Anyway…

1. Berman
2. Coto (high average but content is too small to put it over Berman)
3. Bennett
4. Early Gene
5. Kurtzman
6. Abrams
(gap)
7. Late Gene

Granted, you could split some of these up further; like early TNG and TMP, or TNG/VOY/ENT style or DS9/ENT season 3 for Berman (though that wouldn’t really be “eras”), but I’d rather not right now.

Somebody do some sort of tabulating, and yes it will need a bit of judgement/finagling, but do your best. JJ seems to be not faring well, but maybe that is confirmation bias on my part.

JJ Trek was good for one thing: bringing Trek back from the dead. Then it got out of the way once it did its job. Not that it meant to bow out when it did, but the end-result is still the same. ;)

I'd love to see another Trek movie come out one day. Just by someone else, with someone else.
