Which Episode Killed a Redshirt The Earliest?

Or "Catspaw", the teaser where the guy beams up already dead and does a faceplant from the top level of the chamber to the deck (stuntman Jay Jones). Though I think he's in a yellow shirt.

I thought Jackson was wearing a red shirt, but you are correct. He does have a gold command tunic on.

Earliest in production order or after the start of the episode?

I think Obsession starts the killing right in the teaser.

Jackson is dead in the teaser in Catspaw, also.

One thing little thing I really liked about What are Little Girls Made of is Kirk says beam down two security and as soon as they get there Kirk addresses them both by name. With over 400 people on the ship and potential for duties to transfer on and off the ship Jim sure seems to know his crew really well, and the whole trope of the cannon fodder known as redshirts seems like it doesn't really belong here, they have names and Kirk expresses loss, not just this episode but in most if not all. The trope implies a throw away person no one cares about, or am I reading the wrong thing into it? I don't think the true Redshirtism begins until TNG when crewman x is killed and no one gives a shit.

Sorry, editoral over.

I guess you could say as earliest "redshirt" deaths, the first could be Pike's yeoman, even though they didn't wear red at the time and it was before the episode started, but it fills most of the other criteria.

Okay, how bout *last* redshirt killed? (timewise in an ep, not in the series) Marple in The Apple?

Marple, the John Cassavetes of Star Trek. "I made it!....ughhhhh..."

Darnell, while not wearing red, fills the redshirt role in "The Man Trap". The first episode shown and the sixth one filmed. Kelso get's redshirted in "WNMHGB", the second pilot and the third episode shown.

Have we guessed every episode in which a redshirt was killed?
Even some episodes where no redshirt was killed but someone in another coloured shirt was.
I'm beginning to think some of you aren't taking this seriously.;)

No, it's the two security guys in What are little guys made of like the guy said!
JB
Depends if "red shirt" is being used literally. The first guy wearing a red shirt who is killed or the the first minor character killed to show a serious threat.

I can think of three where redshirts got it in the teaser.

"The Apple," thorns to the chest, 2:00 minute mark.
"Friday's Child," "kligat" to the chest, 2:16.
"Obsession," Eddie Paskey and the other guard go down about 3:00, not sure when they die.

I was hoping it was the panicky "A Klingon!" guy, but the one who's looking at flowers beat him. Any others?

Woohoo! I mentioned "The Apple" earlier!
