Some of the syndicated cuts on the unremasterd versions were usually worse.

Thank the Prophets that when I watched them as a kid, Channel 4 ran them uncut.

I never saw an entirely uncut TOS episode until they started coming out on home videotape in the mid-to-late 80s. Before then as a little kid and young teenager I saw the 46-1/2 minute cuts where about four minutes of the original were trimmed out. Since then most syndicated edits have dwindled to about 43 minutes.

I went with the the original, which is still the best in my view. I've seen a few of the remastered eps and the new visual/cgi effects just don't sit well with me.

TOS edges out the remastered versions, primarily because the edits to the live action sequences often hurt rather than helped the episodes, all for the purpose of shoehorning more commericials into an hour.

You realize you're watching the syndicated cuts, which can't be blamed on the remastering?
I've only seen them on TV, so I can't comment on any other version.

The fact remains, though, that any and all cuts that you're complaining about have absolutely nothing to do with remastering. They're done because of TV syndication. (The full, uncut remastered episodes are available on DVD.)

The original, non-remastered episodes were cut in the same manner. You can't avoid it. The only way you can ever see the uncut episodes (remastered or no) is to buy the DVDs.

I can't decide.

Being very young to what I suppose most of the TOS fans are, I like the clarity of the remastered as compared to the origional, but the cgi does look out of place.

Like in Where No Man Has Gone Before, in the energy barrier, it looks way more...as if the space-cloud was an effect pulled from Voyager.

A few things managed to look somewhat in-place, however.

The CGI versions are fun... but, for me, the definitive edition will always be the one I grew up with.

I really love the HD first-season set; I wish we had all three seasons in high definition. But I have to have the originals, too; I have to have both.

Both versions are canon and official in Paramount's eyes, so at least we're not getting the George Lucas "one or the other" treatment where the original incarnation has been relegated to the dustbin of history as little more than unfinished crap.

I have now seen 7-8 totally uncut, DVD versions of the remastered episodes. Pure heaven. The two latest I borrowed were Galileo 7 and Doomsday Machine...
