Which cast member enjoyed being on TNG the most?

I'm going to say Michael Dorn. He played that character straight through from 1987 to 1999, on t.v, & appeared in five Star Trek movies, four of them as Worf. He must easily hold the record for most appearances as the same character

If that's not devotion, I don't know what is

Probably Riker....I can remember a couple of instances where Frakes words and actions as an actor really stood out and showed how much he loved the role.

I remember him speaking during the TNG Special that aired on one of the ABC early morning shows. He was thankful to have a job and called the chance to meet the original series actors an honor, if I recall correctly.

The second instance was a con I attended in Montreal about 13 years ago. He was really kind. At the end of the convention it was obvious he wanted to get off the stage and avoid the rush of the fans. He had been taking questions about the show for about 35 minutes or so and it was time for his stage talk to end. He left the stage, but found out that a young child was crying in the front row because he had not had the chance to ask his question. If I remember what happened correctly, he sat down and chatted with the kid.

I always got the sense that Frakes really loved being on TNG. He was also one of my favourite characters.

Aww, it disappoints me to hear about Brent Spiner's attitudes towards the show (if they are indeed true). He had to be my favourite character on the show. I still get teary every time I watch him die in Nemesis :(

It's funny how no one's mentioned Gates McFadden...

But I agree with the majority here, Frakes. All the way.

I hate to break it to you but actors do have to earn a living and if you had asked Frakes or Dorn if they would have done it for free I can guarantee they would have said no. The think I like about Brent Spiner is that he's smarter than your average bear.

I think we know that actors have to earn a living, just noting that some seem to hold it in a higher regard than others.

TrekMovie.com: I was told a story that once while you were shooting on Leverage and sitting in the video village you just blurted out ‘aft torpedoes fire!’ and cracked up the crew. That is pretty funny, but it makes me wonder if Star Trek is something that stays with you, even though it was just a job you did a decade ago. Does it become intertwined with your life?

Jonathan Frakes: Absolutely. Michael Dorn came to my house last night for dinner and we that very conversation. It is part of you. We did 182 episodes and 4 movies and countless conventions and countless Christmas parties, birthday parties and dinners. And you get recognized every day. For better or for worse, you epitaph will be "you knew him best as Riker."

Frakes the most, apparently Stewart the least.

I have no opinion on the subject, but if the above is true, it shows you how little it matters in certain respects.

I mean, even if Patrick Stewart hated every minute of it, his performances are some of the best in all of Trek, and collectively perhaps the best body of work of any Trek actor.

I almost prefer hearing that he disliked it, since it adds a layer of comedy to the whole thing.

Jonathan Frakes as Riker was my favourite TNG character but I'm pretty sure all of them enjoyed being in TNG... Not only in TNG series for 7 years, but also being together in 4 movies.. So yeah, I'm sure they had a good bond with one another...

While I don't think Spiner loved the show, I do think he liked his co-workers. I recall reading about how Spiner prefered the early seasons because he felt he had more creativity in creating the role. The later seasons become more routine when the show find it's style. This is all in Mark Altman's "Captain Log" book. I would say that about the same as Stewart. Stewart oviously would proably prefer to be doing a Shakesphere play or something more serious, but that doesn't mean he hated the experience he had on the show.

I also think Frakes had the enormous benefit of being (well, from what I've read anyway) personally coached by Gene Roddenberry himself. If that doesn't get you to become a fan of your part, I don't know what would.

I know they all had a blast, including the guest stars - TNG was infamous for being the most fun show to guest star on because the main cast were having so much fun.

I would say LeVar Burton, since he and Wil Wheaton were the 2 Trekkies of the cast before the show.

Who didn't love being on Trek? The only person to really leave was Denise Crosby, and she begged to come back!

Diane Muldar. Yes, she was on TOS twice. But she said she just didn't fit in while on TNG.
