Which captain has the most... enthusiastic fan base??

Obviously Kirk is in a league of his own so let's leave him out of this. When I say enthusiastic, I don't mean how many people show up to see them at the conventions. I mean which captain has the most fans who will utter "how dare you insult/belittle my favorite captain? how dare you suggest that another captain is better than *insert name here*? I will destroy you."

Picard vs. Sisko vs. Janeway vs. Pike.

In my short stint here (still only a Lt. Junior Grade) I get the feeling that Janeway garners the most die-hard supporters. Am I wrong?

Well, we see a lot of support for Janeway from the Voyager fans, but I think that's largely because the show and character are so frequently derided, so they are put in positions where they have to be defensive of the character.

Outside of that, All the captains have their fans. I agree that Kirk is an absolute Icon even outside of Trek fandom and would easily dominate the discussion if left in.

Well, I've not heard too much of that sort of confrontational language, but Janeway's probably the captain with the most active personal fanbase on this board.

This was exactly my feeling. So is this a result of what Kirkman pointed out? That out of the necessity to defend their favorite captain, Janeway fans are most visible here?

Janeway, noooooo question. And eh, I dunno. Defending against criticism is one thing, and going insane every time anyone has ANY criticism of her is another.

I'm another vote for Janeway by necessity - she's pretty much the least liked, most heavily criticized captain, so her fan base is much more vocal.

In my experience the Janeway and Sisko fans are the most gung ho. Personally, I'm a Picard fan. But people don't tend to drag him into debates, we all know he's the sage diplomat and that doesn't seem to receive much criticism.

I think it shows how little enthusiasm there is for Archer, when a fan is trying to list all the captains and remembers a guy who has, what, three appearances(?) in the Star Trek universe before him.

Hey, Pike was a pretty cool guy when he showed up, and he seemed like a good captain. That's more than we can say for Duchess (can't remember how sfdebris came up with that nickname, but I love it).

Kirk and Picard don't need fanbases because they're icons. So basically they're on a whole other level.

I'll go with Janeway. She has a very supportive and vocal fan base because she is often the most criticized captain due to her bending or breaking starleet morality and regulation on multiple occasions. Basically, the character was on her own without SF command to fall back on for guidance and made some decisions that many fans find unpalatable.

I on the other hand just consider her a poorly written character on a poorly written show and thought she should have had to make many more and much more difficult decisions. That show was like a cakewalk through the Delta quadrant.

Star Trek: Equinox would've been a better show.

I think Janeway fans also get defensive as they see criticism of Janeway as some kind of sexist attack on the very idea of a female captain, rather than the criticism of ONE particular and poorly written female captain.

I actually always point to that episode or Year of Hell as how Voy should have been.

Really? Could you please elaborate? I was rather annoyed half-way through this episode because I knew they were going to pull a "reset the timeline stunt." And sure enough, they did.

You guys do know that Year of Hell was originally supposed to last an entire season, right? TPTP said no and they were forced to redo it as a two parter.

The reason why Voyager never lived up to its premise is that it wasn't allowed to. There was no tension between the fleeters and the maquis because the higher ups immediately told the writers/directors that they weren't allowed to do that.

Voyager failed its premise because it wasn't allowed to follow it from the get go.
