Editor's note: If you are wondering why the presidential candidates don't spend more time talking about space exploration, here's your chance to try and change that situation and toss questions at them. Go to Politico.com and submit a question to the Democratic and Republican candidates for the CNN/Politico/LA Times debates at the end of the month. Imagine what would happen if they had a thousand questions from NASA Watch readers submitted ... its time for y'all to put up or shut up. Send in a question. Send in more than one question.
Editor's update: You've been busy! Lots of space questions have been submitted and are now up for voting. Several questions seem to be heading to the top of the pack. Perhaps the smart thing to do at this point is to try and vote for several of the most popular questions (as opposed to submitting new ones) so as to get them closer to the top of the list such that the topic has a chance to be discussed. Look at what you have done already - imagine what will happen if you all keep at this every day and get others to vote until the debates on 30 and 31 January! And make certain to vote at work and at home - and on your cellphone - and at Starbucks - anywhere you get Internet access. The poll site tracks your IP address when you vote - and you can only vote for a question once - regardless of deleting cookies, use of multiple browsers or computers, etc.

I read an interview in Rolling Stone back when Edwards was just hinting about running in '08. He pretty much said that people in government begrudge NASA its tiny budget and turn a blind eye to the vast amount of $ soaked up by the military. He has since dedicated himself to patching up the US relations with the rest of the world-if he is elected-and in the same article(in the Stone) he referenced the "investment in the future" attitude that occured after Sputnik shocked the country which resulted in increased funding for education and scientific research. I think he would be a viable pro-space candidate. Sorry, I don't have a link to the article-I read actual paper copies of the magazine and then put them in the recycle bin at work. But what struck me was his attitude of disbelief that NASA's budget is questioned so often. It really stuck in my mind. I've heard some good things come out of other candidates' mouths but he won me over right there-since Gore won't run.![]()
