Which Being human to watch?

I realize there is only one episode of the american version already aired, but surely you can tell whether it's any good? :)

I've loved the Life On Mars UK but couldn't stand the american version, so I'm bit wary of USized shows. But the US version has Sam Witwer and Mark Pellengrino and both are a great plus! If I watch both, I'll most likely prefer the first one I choose.

So, which one?

The English is short.

And the US is on the ground floor.

Piece of piss.

Although.

Given your uncommon situation, get two TVs, picture in a picture is bullshit. Get two TVs and watch them both at the same time.

Just like Elvis Presley.

It's a bit of a tossup, since they're very similar in story and tone so far. But the UK version has been running longer so there's more of it to see. It might be worthwhile to start with the UK series, then compare the US version as it develops, see how it parallels and differs from the original.

And the ghost in the UK version is prettier, though the US equivalent isn't bad at all.

UK version is WAY superior. I'm slogging through the U.S. version (only 2 eps in) but don't know if I'll stick with it.

Both the ghosts are prettier.

the other Annie

She was using some odd supernorth accent.

The two UK pilots are completely different scripts. All the words are different not just the tone and the actors.

I've never seen the UK version, but I personnally found the American version to be an offputting emo whinefest. Since the general opinion is that it's tolerable, I can only assume the UK version is an offputting emo whinefest, too. Maybe that's the point of the show?

Mark Pelligrino and Sam Witwer are both good, but all the other actors range from sketchy to horrendous in acting ability.

IMDB says She was born in Newcastle, isnt that north?

I make up words now and then.

Supernorth.

"super-north"

Yup.

My geography is shit, but almost everything is north of London.

Newcastle is north of England, yeah.

As for which version to watch. I'd go with the UK version, then watch the US version. I prefer the UK version but the US version isn't too bad so far.

Always vote for the original. The only example of a US remake being superior to the UK original that I can think of is All in the Family (some say Queer as Folk is better in the US version, ditto The Office, but I don't watch either show). That's not to say Being Human (US) is a bad show - I can't judge having not seen it yet - but there had to be something good about the UK original or else they wouldn't have bothered remaking it.

Of course, as fans of Life on Mars can tell you, the problem with watching the original is that you'll get annoyed with changes in the US version, especially when they dumb it down (note I didn't say "if" there). So if there's something you really like about the US version, you might be better off "proceeding in ignorance", so to speak, otherwise your view of that show might be negatively colored. ;)

^Actually, so far I find the US version of Being Human to be pretty much equal to the UK version -- they're telling the same stories in the same tone, and I don't see any notable difference in quality. I stopped watching the US version after the second episode, but then, I stopped watching the UK version too, not because of quality, but simply because I don't enjoy the darkness of the storylines. The only reason I bothered to watch the UK show as long as I did was because Lenora Crichlow's so nice to look at.

I find the actors in the original to be more believable, and more likable.

The US actors are all a bit too "plastic" looking for me.

Going off of the first episodes of both:

Mitchell UK is much more charming but I think Aiden US does the hunger need thing better.

George UK is hands down favorite over Josh, the manic energy he puts into the role is great and the abandonment with which he throws himself into the transformations is amazing.

Annie UK is more likable but I think Sally US has a more haunted quality which seems appropriate.

I found I really feel Aiden and Annie's predicaments more than I did from their UK counterparts who might be more charming. The UK version is more lighthearted and the US version is more sober.

^I felt the UK version was too uneven in tone, trying for a Whedonesque blend of comedy and dark drama, but not doing the "blend" part very well. It just seemed to jerk arbitrarily from really depressing and dark to really goofy and manic. From what I've seen of the US version, it seems more tonally consistent.

As for the actors, I think Sam Witwer (Aidan) is more likeable and accessible than Aidan Turner (Mitchell). I don't like Sam Worthington (Josh) as much as Russell Tovey (George), but Tovey can get annoyingly over-the-top. As for Meaghan Rath (Sally) and Lenora Crichlow (Annie), I find Crichlow more attractive and her character more fun, but if I kept watching I think Rath might close the gap in those regards. She's one of those women who aren't striking at first glance but get more attractive the more you watch them.

Oh, sorry. But he's the guy who was Jimmy Olsen in Superman Returns, I was right about that much. Just hard to keep those two names straight.

I like the bbc one better but, I like the actor who play's the vampire in the american one so I will give the first season a try . the best part of bbc's version is annie especialy the end of season 2 which scared the $!@# out of me. which is hard to do on television . tonight is tuesday this is what I am watching no oridanary family and v. and then monday's the cape and being human on my dvr.
