Whether if flops or succeeds...

^ All of a sudden I had a flash of that nutjob who 'defended' Brittany Spears screaming "Leave Shatner ALOOOONNNNEEEE!!!"

How 'edit' dare anyone out there make fun of Jimmy after all he has been through!

He lost his brother, he went through a time portal. he had one 'edit' kid.

His doctor turned out to be a user, a bricklayer, and now he's going through a space battle. All you people care about is making credits off of him.

HE’S A HUMAN! What you don’t realize is that Jimmy is making you all this latinum and all you do is write a bunch of fan fiction about him.

He hasn’t performed Rocket Man on stage in years. His book is called “Star Trek Memories” for a reason because all you people want is Trek Trek Trek Trek Trek!

LEAVE HIM ALONE! You are lucky he even tore his shirt off for you BASTARDS!
LEAVE JIMMY ALONE…..Please.

Commodore Decker talked about professionalism and said if Jimmy was a professional he would’ve pulled it off no matter what.

Speaking of professionalism, when is it professional to publicly bash someone who is going through a hard air fare negotiation.

Leave Jimmy Alone Please….
Leave Jimmy Kirk alone…right now….I mean it!

Anyone that has a problem with him you deal with Spock, because he is not well right now.

LEAVE HIM ALONE!

You know...if it wasn't so long it would be sigline material! :techman:

I honestly don't think there's enough information out there for me to get a good feeling for whether or not I think this movie will succeed. Nothing I've seen so far though has given me cause to worry. This will be a good question to ask after we get to see the full trailer with actual live footage.

Agreed. Of course it an odd number trek movie. ;(

Yeah, but that specific trend didn't seems to apply to 7-10. Atleast in my opinion, Generations was good, when it should have been bad according to the numbers. Insurrection, while not great, was also not a bad film. Where was Nemesis, being an even number should have been great, tanked...

So far, I like some of the sets we've seen, the shuttle craft for example. And no, not talking about the aptera, although I wouldn't mind having one of those too.

I hope it goes well, but I'm still in a wait and see mode till I start to lean either way as to if I think it will go well.

I personally hope it succeeds beyond expectations of the box office experts and and Trek fans that want it to marvelously fail. I am not definitive though how successful it will truly be. I need more than leaked pictures and an actual trailer to make a general judgement.

:)

I hate speculating in a vacuum.

However, based on the list of acting roles already cast, we know that JJ appear to be intending to put on film a lot of background material related on the extended families of our favourite characters.

Whilsts its a bit of a juggling act, if done properly, I believe the storyline of STXI will be rich, engrossing and have the potential to become universally accepted as the best (or at least top 3) Trek movies of all time.

Bearing in mind the purported running time of this movie will be about 2 hours, this leaves a lot of room for a fully developed and well told story.

So I think it will suceed.

Cheers

Okay... I want to extend an olive branch in this forum, and say that I would LIKE for this movie to succeed. But so far, I've seen too many things that say that JJ is not treating this universe right.

Okay... the set photos are one of those things... AND the look of the Enterprise. I do not like what I've seen on both those fronts, and everyone knows it.

But it's not just that...

I am doubtful about some of the actors in the new cast. The guy they got to play Chekov... I think he is both too young, AND in no way anywhere remotely resembles Chekov, or prompts us to think that he could be a Chekov... I'm just not feelin' it with him. Admittedly, I don't know any of the other actors, either, but I did see a short video interview with the new Chekov, so I did hear his voice and such, and yes, I know he'll probably adopt a russian accent, but I still don't feel it.

However, I LOVE who they got for Uhura... that actress is the spitting image of Nichelle as Uhura, so in regards to that, I am very hopeful.

IF I see this film, and at this point, it's a HUGE if... IF I see it... I will be forced to judge it on the story, and the writing. That is what counts. I said that about ENT when it came out, and loved the 1st season. Then the show became crap after that. By the time Manny Cotto came in and made it good again, it was too late.

So, what I'm saying is, I'm not all venom and poison, in regards to this thing... I just wish it did not look so very different from established Trek... even ENT. But we can't always have the whole package, so as I said, the quality of story and writing will shape my opinion of the final product.

That being said, I will not see it when it premieres... I will wait and read the reviews from those in the Trek community first.

Like I said, it's just my way of getting to know everyone... and although I love Trek and want it to succeed, the reason I chose this question is that so many seem to already have either an opinion or expectation of this movie.

Many thanks to all who posted and to those I'm sure WILL post. I look forward to reading them all.

^ Yeah...the opening post is all bolded too.

Sector 7, you really need to dial it back with the text editor functions - bolding usernames is fairly routine around here...and it's okay to use it to emphasize a word or phrase here and there. But bolding entire posts isn't really working.

Thanks.

I'm going to go ahead and ask you to turn off the bold text, Sector 7. You are blinding me. -PKTrekGirl

"Info assimilated, thank you for that attitude re-adjustment..." (Name that movie AND scene... and yes it does qualify as Sci-Fi.) This is a learning experience for me... I've only belonged to one other forum before and it was mainly for posting. Be Well...

I hope it succeeds because I want Trek back on TV.

Very simple.

Trek back on TV ?

Not as long as Les Moonves is alive.

Even if the new film made a trillion dollars, Les Moonves won't allow a new series.

The franchise being split in half is why it won't happen, ever.

^ I did not post the quote attributed to me. :p

She's so disgusted by me. It's obvious.

You know....there are several adjectives I would use to describe you, Sam, but 'disgusting' is most certainly not one of them. ;)

...maybe it was just wishful thinking that it came from a hot chick who also loves ST... heheh...
No offense Sam ;-)

Who says I'm not a hot chick?
Jeez, I hope not! Otherwise, I withdraw all the steamy hot PMs I've ever sent you.

That was you I sent them to, right?

Personally I don't understand people who want a movie to fail. This is just entertainment — there are more important things in live to worry about.
Pretty much my take on it, too. Of course, some people give the impression that to them Star Trek isn't "just" anything - more like their reason for living or something. I don't get that, either, whether it's Trek or any other TV show / movie / whatever. But that's a whole other issue. :D

As far as I can tell, it's a kind of jockeying for position to be first in line to say "Ha ha! I told you it was going to suck!" when the movie comes out.
I get a similar impression. It's kinda sad, really.

As for the actual question... Yeah, I'd like to see this movie succeed, if for no other reason than it'd be good to have something decent to wash away the foul memories of Nemesis. :D
