Where's the Masters TARDIS?

The last time we saw it was in Trial Of A Time Lord. Most of the time it was a repaint or redress of the Doctor's set, really (Apart from the outside).


I'm quessing perhaps the Master destroyed it shortly before he became human, hence his need to use the Doctor's TARDIS for the paradox machine (and asking the Doctor where it is later on in End Of Time.)

Perhaps the Time Lords confiscated the Master's TARDIS when they drafted him to fight in the Time War - as an incentive? Meaning, they'd give it back to him when he completed his service.

I think he probably took his TARDIS (or stole another one) to escape the Daleks, in the far future.

So, then, it's possible there's a dormant TARDIS sitting near the end of the universe?

It would have been left wherever it was when the Daleks put him on trial, if we go by the TVM.

At the end of the movie the Master was effectively destroyed, and the timelords would have had to bring him back from whatever form he was in.

His TARDIS or TARDISes (TARDI ?), might still be out there.

I imagine that the Master's TARDIS would have been destroyed by the Daleks when they took him captive for his trial on Skaro, or by the Dalek Emperor when it captured the Cruciform (mentioned in "The Sound of Drums" as the event that prompted the Master to run away and become Professor Yana).

I doubt there's a TARDIS somewhere in the Year One Hundred Trillion Minus However Many Years the Master Had Lived As Professor Yana. I think the Master would have made sure that Yana would always have a TARDIS nearby if he'd brought one with him. I think it's more likely that the Master travelled to the End of the Universe through some capsule-less time travel mechanism. Though presumably there is an unattended Chameleon Arch somewhere.

If the Arch wasn't in the Master's TARDIS, I'd imagine it went with Gallifrey and the rest when the war ended.

I figure the Master used a TARDIS to get to the end of the universe. It would've either been destroyed sometime in the intervening years (maybe the Time Lords detected the disused TARDIS and recalled it on autopilot, assuming the Master had died, and recommissioning it to continue fighting in the war), or Yana had relocated far from it over the course of his life (farther than Utopia was from the human base, since if was within that range, the Master could've used the Doctor's TARDIS to pick it up).

This has been at the back of my mind since the new series return of The Master.

The next time he shows up, I hope he has his TARDIS with him. It should (as always) have a working chameleon circuit and the interior should be a darker redress of the doctor's TARDIS.

It's interesting because clearly the Master had access to a working Tardis to get him to the end of the universe, but if it was still functional why didn't he reclaim it when he had access to the Doctor's Tardis given that it probably worked a lot better!

Anyway, my thoughts.

1. The Master set the Tardis to remotely return to a much earlier time after dropping him off. This might make sense if the Daleks could track a Tardis (even at the end of the universe). The problem with this is that he clearly intended to become the Master again, see how annoyed he was with both himself and Chan-Tho for not opening the watch sooner.

2. The Tardis was recalled. Unlikely, I mean surely if the Timelords had this ability they'd have recalled the Doctor's years ago! If such a thing existed surely both the Doctor and the Master have it deactivated.

3. The Tardis was destroyed just after getting him to the end of the universe. This might be the most logical alternative, although...

4. Maybe the Tardis was destroyed in the intervening years he was Yana? Despite being near indestructable the universe was slowly collapsing and you get the impression humanity were constantly moving, retreating from the end of everything. Maybe his Tardis worked just fine, its just that the location he left it at didn't exist anymore?!

No, I'm sure the Time Lords had given the Master a TARDIS to fight the Time War for them and he used it to run away.

The Master: The Time Lords only resurrected me because they knew I'd be the perfect warrior for a Time War. I was there when the Dalek Emperor took control of the Cruciform. I saw it. I ran. I ran so far. Made myself human so they would never find me, because I was so scared.

Unless the Master was given command of a War Tardis during the war or placed under the command of a Time Lord general for close observation...I doubt they would have given him a Tardis so he could escape, yet he did escape...it's an interesting question. It wouldn't have been on Utopia or else the Doctor most likely would have been able to detect it I assume.

I don't see any reason why the Doctor could detect the Master's TARDIS, it's been hidden under the Doctor's nose in the past and he couldn't spot it.

I was speculating purely from the line the Doctor could detect another Time Lord...I'm assume the Tardis could detect another Tardis if there was another one in the universe.

There's a classic series episode (Keeper of Traaken) where the Master's TARDIS disguises itself as a calcified statue-and it takes the Doctor some effort to figure out it's a TARDIS.

In LOGOPOLIS he also unwittingly materializes around the Master's TARDIS(Which has also taken on the form of a police box), which causes some dimensional problems.

The Monk's TARDIS, SIDRATs, The Master's TARDIS (on numerous occaisions), the Rani's TARDIS - all undected..

I realize the Classic series would negate my theory...and most likely it would be the case that the Doctor's Tardis wouldn't be able to detect another Tardis, again as I stated in my post I was purely speculating based on comments the Doctor said on his physical ability to detect another Time Lord. I realize this theory wouldn't apply to a Tardis.

yes, but the master will have not remembered where it was in the utopia era.. or was unable to find it when he went back to rescue the toklofane...using the doctor's tardis was all he could do..maybe his ship was in chameleon mode and left on some cold lifeless world on the edge of collapsing reality..it would then be a possibility that someone could hotwire the thing and use it.. but then there is the pesky little matter of the isomorphic control system which prohibits anyone else other then the master from using it..


so maybe it is useless..

The Master was also in quite the hurry and was on an incredible adrenaline rush after what must have been his first regeneration in a long time (at least since the Time Lord's resurrected him in the War...speaking of that I wonder who the Lord President was? I don't think Romana would have considered a decision like that no matter how desperate the situation was. Perhaps her successor or even Rassilion) and was motivated to leave Utopia...the thought didn't even cross his mind to search for his own Tardis. Indeed he seemed eager to use the Doctor's...
