My rankings change around every time I watch them all again. For example, most recently, I've developed a new appreciation for GEN mostly because I feel that it was the one TNG film that dared to change the status quo, unlike the others that felt a lot like TV episodes (an assessment that may seem like a cliché, but it's true). At the same time, I must now rank FC as my least favorite. I suppose when it was new I found it exiting for the then-unusually high action content. But today, after STXI, it seems tame in that regard, and other than that it doesn't have much to offer. This is how perceptions change.
So with all due caution, I would place the new film among my top three or four in any event. Only two other ST films are as entertaining as this one: TVH and TWOK. Only one other, TMP, is equally cinematic. And these are the things I want to see in a Star Trek film (as opposed to television): entertainment that makes the minutes fly by and something of scope and scale that television couldn't give me. In both ways, STXI delivers, so it must rank highly.
