Where would you rank it with the other films?

How does Trek XI stack up with the other 10 Treks, in your personal opinion?

For me, it's

1. TWOK
2. Trek XI
3. TUC
4. FC
5. TVH
...
...
11. INS

Wow. I am just surprised how many people are giving this movie good ratings. I'm not going to try and convince anyone else this was a bad movie...but from my perspective the first viewing.....IT WAS AWFUL. I love trek guys, but this may be the WORST trek movie. I'm sure I will be in the minority. If other people enjoy this time of film....all the power to them.

1. TUC
2. TWOK
3. TSFS
4. TMP
5. GEN
6. TVH & ST(09)
7. TFF
8. INS
9. NEM

Okay, haven't read the thread yet, so as to be unbiased in my review:

Wrath of Khan is not just the best Trek film. It will, to me, always be one of the best films of all time. I rank only Aliens, Fight Club and Shawshank above it. It is just perfect. I think this is reflected in the fact that the new film is clearly trying to be it.

I have a lot of fondness for 'the trilogy', but I think I have to recognize The Undiscovered Country as the spiritual sequel to Khan. I put this as my number two.

The new film has a lot of flaws... but I think I have to recognize it for how good it was. I put it at number three.

Following close behind is First Contact. I think it shares a lot of problems with the new film (style over substance, in a word), but it's a great ride. 4th.

The one with the whales. Funny, full of pathos, a lot of characterizations for Spock and Kirk. Double-dumbass on you. Great stuff.

Search for Spock. Wonderful film, unfairly maligned in my opinion. "My god Bones. What have I done?" brings me to tears even thinking about it. 6th

Generations. Better than you were first horrified by, I assure you. Once you've watched it with the commentary on, it's actually a very clever parable about religion vs. science. As a two-part episode of the show, it would have been a classic.

Nemesis. A lot of elements that should have made a great film, but somehow don't come together.

Insurrection. Even as a two-parter, probably would have disappointed. Not terrible, but worse: Forgetful.

Final Frontier. It had one good scene (I need my pain). Otherwise a complete waste of time. Pains me even to think of it.

1. STXI (sorry... :))
2. TUC
3. TWOK
4. STFC
5. TVH
6. SFS
7. GEN
8. NEM
9. TMP
10. INS
11. TFF

I still cant stand Insurrection and Final Frontier...

1. TWOK
2. FC
3. XI

The rest of them I have not seen in a long time, so I can't rank them now.

I'm not going to say it's my top film as I'm still buzzing from its novelty value - but it's definitely in the top 3. Vying for position with ST:FC and TWOK.

Yes, XI has a few minor problems. Style over substance, for one. But then again; if that substance made the pace as agonizingly slow as that of the first few Trek movies, then I happily vote for style! So yeah, I'd rank the new film at #1. Remotely followed by First Contact.

This was not just bad Star Trek, it was quite simply a bad movie. I was sincerely disappointed, for lots of reasons.

It might be better than STV:TFF. I'm not sure.

All the rest outrank it, if you ask me. Yes, even Insurrection and Nemesis.

The first few? Okay, I'll grant you that TMP was slow, although I'd call it more "stately" than "agonizing." But virtually everyone agrees that ST2 was the best in the series, and #3 and 4 are quite similar to it in pace.

At any rate, this is Star Trek. I'll always take substance over style, pacing notwithstanding.

Ahh, an excuse to watch the movies all over again to form a fresh opinion!

First blush, I rate it in the top 5. I think First Contact is still #1 and Khan #2, but #3 would be a tie between Voyage Home and Star Trek 10. Probably.

Well, to be honest, while 2 and 3 weren't slow-paced for those days, they are for today's (and even yesterday's) standards.

And until I'd seen the new movie, I hadn't even realized how slow-paced Trek (even all the series) really was. It was my most loved universe, but all action and even most stories -- where every plot point had to be meticulously explained -- were very slow paced. No wonder non-trekkies fell asleep whenever I'd try to treat them to a good episode or movie.

Most of the time, nothing actually happend! No real battles, no real personal plots (or they would strangely vanish the next episode) and all mysteries and technobabble-solutions would be explained point by point by point until even the viewer with the least IQ would be able to make the necessary connections.

Even when there was a life-or-death battle going on, you could go get something to drink, put some food in the microwave and 15 minutes later the phasers would only have fired twice, and the battle would still be ongoing!

I'd even draw a military analogy; while most movies and series would represent an air superiority fighter, star trek would represent a submarine.

I've noticed it with other series from my youth (I can't stand to watch the A-team any longer, how horribly simplistic and drawn-out), but I didn't notice it with Trek. Any Trek.

But now I do.

I like substance. Really, I like it a lot. Give me a universe, an absolutely epic, intricate and complicated story and lots of personal character development that continue over a long course. Both in a series and in a movie. But not if that would make the pace as horrid as that of TMP.

To be honest, I would have liked it if the new Star Trek movie was split in 2 parts, where there would be a lot more substance (and more action to offset it with). But then again, I doubt as many people would watch it as they have done now.
