Where was the TOS engine room?

Just re-read that and of course you're quite right - my speed to be sarcastic bites me in the arse again, D'oh!I wrote, "all the others that don't fit" not "all others don't fit". There is a difference, smartypants.
As for making the ship bigger - it's not really neccessary, the bridge set fits quite nicely in the dome of a 947' Enterprise and all the other rooms have plenty of space in the primary and secondary hull (assuming you're not concerned about corridor placement that is. Which I am, but that's just me)
Seriously, all of the nit-picking about sets being too big can be written off as artistic license by the set designers and the requirements of filming. For example; we know that all of the corridors and rooms that we see would have ceilings in real life but instead we see walls that continue upward forever out of view. The only ceiling we ever really see is in engineering. The rec-deck in TMP was just too damned big for a ship of that size. The big crew get together scene should have been done on the hanger deck; which we already saw. I liked Ent because the ship felt smaller and more cramped. Would the episodes with the shuttlecraft have felt different if the set was more compact like a private jet to where it would fit in the full-size mockup?
I've got a nice large framed picture of the real USS Enterprise CVN-65 up on the wall next to my monitor. It's amazing how much stuff and people that they can cram onto a ship that size. And I'm voting for two engine rooms on the 1701. Both for redundancy and for separated operations. It's the only thing that makes sense.
Are you referring to the TOS Enterprise or the refit?
The TOS, which most official sources give as having a length of 947 feet. However, in terms of modelling scale it's would likely be 1080 feet.

Ya know, you guys might want to start with something a little easier and work your way up to the Enterprise. Sure, any piece will fit into any hole if the holes are big enough, but that isn't really the point of the exercise.

That theory has as much validity as the Confederacy not being based on slavery. History is history... lets avoid changing it because of convenience (or laziness).

Changing history?Changing unwritten history would probably be the anal-retentively accurate way of putting it. Whether that sort is more or less trustworthy than the written variant is a mildly interesting question in itself, of course; "history" in general tends to be flexible enough that such nuances are lost in the margins of error...

I was just wondering: Had TPTB even settled on the size of the starship at the time it was built? Even if they had, would that have had any effect on the model builders?
